    Hello,
Could someone give me some advice on the literature review? I missed a few lectures and am wondering what I need to do.
    Thanks in advance.

Hey, I'm currently partway through my EPQ. I initially chose 'the use of Bacteriophages in Medicine', but since my essay title had to be a question, I changed it to 'What is the potential for bacteriophages to replace antibiotics?' since I was interested in this sort of thing.
Currently on about 1800 words, having included various things about Bacteria and antibiotics. Can anyone suggest anything else worthy of note in this sort of topic? Like various facts to include etc.

I'd also love if someone could tell me the sort of stuff that goes into the log, like what to write etc.
    Thanks

I'm just planning mine at the moment, and want to do it on the Curiosity Rover that recently landed on Mars. I was going to include the social impact, interview physics lecturers about how it will benefit our understanding blah blah and also include about how it actually works.
Was wondering how I can make this into a question, and any other ideas people might have? Would appreciate any guidance
    Thanks

I can't really help you with your question, but for the log just make it up!

To what extent has the 'Curiosity Rover' that recently successfully landed on Mars, benefited our understanding of <insert your primary aim here>?

    What about that?

I started a thread about EPQ's then found this one. When did everyone start their EPQ process? I've just finished GCSE's and will be starting my AS's in a few weeks and wonder if I can start working on my EPQ when I go back or if it's done later on in Sixth Form. I've chosen English Lit, History, Economics and French however I'd eventually like to wind up in the Journalism career. Could I base my project on why women spend so much time and money on cosmetics and beauty? I was thinking of talking about the psychology and the brain and whether it's a scientific thing or more of an environmental influence that some women are more susceptible to. Or is this too... Un-intelligent and a bit of a silly route to take? Some of the hypotheses on here are incredible and sound like uni-standard dissertations and mine feels a bit primary schoolish. Any thoughts?

A month before the end of Year 12. May/June time!

Not a clue how everyone else does it but my Sixth Form has three start times, Christmas in Year 12, end of Year 12 and Christmas in Year 13. I assume you could start yours when you go to sixth form although you would need to talk to the centre coordinator to confirm this.

You can base your EPQ on whatever you want, providing you can write a 5000 word essay on it or produce an "artefact".

Susceptible to what? Its not un-intelligent at all and if anything it maybe controversial which exam boards like! Someone at my Sixth Form did: "Why cannibalism is good."

Wait until you get to Sixth Form, you will be assigned a member of the teaching body that usually have a specialist interest or some knowledge in the area you are looking to write your EPQ on. They will help you form a hypothesis that you can then write a good, strong Extended Project on. Don't worry about it.

What are you looking at within encryption/cryptography? What field? What effect its had on what? Far too vague at the moment.

As above, what specifically or even just a field are you looking at within fashion design? I know someone did something like: "How womens fashion has developed over the last century." as an artefact type project.

I really wouldn't worry about your title sounding silly, mine was entitled "To what extent have wildlife programmes become more for entertainment than education?" Which I know sounds simple and silly but not to brag, it got an A*.
So really it doesn't matter so much about your title, its the content!
And your subject sounds interesting! I believe it's much better to do something unusual rather than the typical topics

Thanks! I'm so glad I got it out of the way now because there is no way I'd have been able to juggle EPQ with A level subjects (especially as I procrastinated a lot! )

I had a lever arch files worth but I go over the top with everything.

I take it you are going a report? If so then twice the amount you finish with..? It's difficult because you only need enough research to get you through writing your report so if you think you can write a decent EPQ on 3 pieces of research then do it otherwise find more. Theres no harm in doing excess research and just saying you didnt need it in the evaluation part of the EPQ.
