1. unistats. i had offers from several RG unis for psy and was shocked when I checked out that the highest form of employment for grads was 'retail sales cashier'.

2. no, i'm not.
If you actually work during A Levels/Degree you could avoid working in sales :P

This sounds terrible, but I'm completely wrong. Unistats has obviously changed since last time I checked, I can't find a RG uni with cashier on the highest percentage of employment. Maybe I was just exaggerating, but it still doesn't seem great.

eg Uni of Manchester is 39% employed with grad job.
Not sure if you'll be able to see this using this link, but otherwise find uni of manchester> psych> employment prospects. plus the actual job fields are pretty depressing, apart from health professional. just go on the site and have a look. it's pretty easy to use.
http://unistats.direct.gov.uk/topJobs.do

There's so much data out there, go use it. UCAS data sets for instance are very useful.

Overall, I just think it's very difficult to get a good job in psychology nowadays, with the crazy amounts who have been doing it for the last 15~ years. And secondly, that unfortunately, due to it's popularity and public perception, the degree itself has become a lot less worthy to general employers.

Yeah but that isn't going to deter me from doing it, if it comes to it I will take a PGCE and become a secondary teacher. There is nothing i would rather do and if you're good enough at it you will get a job. It everyone who isn't actually talented or going to take it for the serious discipline that it is doing degree in it that are saturating the market. Not trolling just saying.

The fact with employment prospects for psychology grads can be skewed - as many try for non-graduate jobs as ways to get work experience for further study. Maybe some of the ones in retail try for (say) research assistant posts and don't get them, so go for stop-gap jobs. Obviously that's not going to be the case for everyone

NO! I finished my application a few days ago, but it will only be sent off by my referee at the beginning to mid-November (we are now on holiday). :banghead: The reason for this is that I had to get my French predicted grade up, and therefore the application has been delayed. :argh:

I have also applied to Royal Holloway, Warwick, Glasgow and Bath. What about you?

Ah, my sixth form is actually quite good now were in U6th we're allowed to visit any University open days, or visits etc.

Sort of a silly question; do you think it will actually be worth going?

Sorry to butt in, but as a general rule it's a good idea to visit any universities you've got an offer from. You can read all about a university and love it, but when you go there it may not suit you as well as you thought. I was set on Surrey prior to visiting, but then I looked around and really did not like it one bit and couldn't see myself there. Basically - it's 3 years of your life being spent somewhere, it's worth the day and the train fare to see if it's right
