So in business there are 4 units. I have 3 exams. Paper 1 is drawn from units 1 and 4. Paper 2 is drawn from units 2 and 3. Paper 3 is a synoptic paper where i could be assessed on absolutely anything from all 4 units.

Hey guys, I'm doing Edexcel Route B History. I do Tudors as well, the German Reformation and also Witchcraft. My coursework is also on the Tudors because they decided it would keep Paper 1 fresh in our minds.

I agree, Edexcel did give us nice questions. I'm sure you'll do fine though, and your topics sound really interesting! I'm a complete History nut, I want to do all of the topics haha.
Your teachers seem to have used common sense when picking the coursework topics (not that I'm complaining, I'd happily do any topic tbh!!)
Are you planning on studying History at uni?? (that's what I want to do!!)

Most linear subjects have a synoptic paper now , have a look on your examboards website if your are doing a linear subject.

I guess they did I go to a pretty big college (well actually, it's not as big as some) and there is a modern History course and a tudor History course (they both do the edxcel exam board and get a History qualification, it's just different routes) and the modern kids are doing the American revolution for coursework but then Germany, Italy and the British Empire for their papers!!

I sure am planning to do a History degree! I want to get a PhD in History and be a History academic/professor!!! I'm actually obsessed with History haha

That makes sense then; my sixth form's attached to my high school and there's probably only about 200 students compared to the sixth form college which has around 2,000(!!!), so my school chose the topics based on what resources they had from their old exam board (which is fair enough tbh).

I love history so much but I'm not sure what on earth I want to do after uni! Stressing about the coursework atm though

Fair enough then! Yeah, see I really like the staff, facilities and course so I'm glad I didn't transfer to another Sixth Form attatched to the rival school to mine. But I'm stressed about the coursework as well!!

How do I balance the coursework, my EPQ, English Literature and English Language with my Cambridge application (and other universities, but they don't require admissions assesments or anything).

Year 13 is going to be one hell of a year...

Ahh! See, I know I want to be an academic in the field of History but if I can't be a Historian I have no idea what I want to do. There's no place I'd rather be than an old library trawling through sources in order to interpret and renew our understanding of the past...

Good luck with it!! I'd like to do the EPQ but I've still not dropped a subject yet and my school don't want me to start until I do. Do you get coursework in English Lit too?? I'm doing A Room with a View by Forster and Atonement by Ian McEwen for mine

What other unis are you looking at? I only made the decision to apply for Cambridge on results day, so it's all been very rushed (and I'm not holding out much hope either tbh )

What period/topic would you like to specialise in??

Ooo, yeah hopefully not! That's probably smart, I have soooooo much work experience though (literally started getting it in year 9) so that's not the issue, it's that I'm not sure if my personal statement is of as great standard as you need. Like how do you know. I get you. I'm nt sure, Considering Nottingham and Birmingham as they are both GCSE heavy and have beautiful campuses, think my last choice depends on whether I do well in the UKCAT really. 710 ish plus then I will apply to Kings or Edinburgh, if lower probably UCL or imperial.Going to see Bristol on Friday though, it looks really nice but it is soooooo PS heavy (legit 70%) so idk, wbu?
It's so difficult to know! I'm just glad most of the ones that I'm applying to don't really consider the PS
I did my UKCAT and it went really well, so I'm not really concerned about that
I'm definitely applying to UEA and Dundee, and I'm picking 2 out of BSMS, Newcastle and Barts. I need to go to open days for the latter two, so I have no idea how it will go. I feel like I'll probably apply to BSMS and Newcastle? But I think that I might like to study in London. So I don't really know at this point, but that's the shortlist I've got it down to

Nottingham is a really nice place, but I always felt hesitant about applying there, because I just don't feel my application is strong enough, plus my sister is going there next year (for a different subject) so I kind of have to avoid it
Birmingham sounds dead nice also! It's got an amazing anatomy department, doesn't it?

    (Original post by jamestg)
I really hope the exams are okay next year hahahaha

I'm sure the Tudors will be fine, just not very hopeful because anything before the 1800s makes me switch off

Same haha, everyone thinks biology is the 'easy' science A-level. It's not.

Oh well done with your UKCAT why Dundee, you Scottish? And idk about Newcastle (I just know it is very up north haha) you ruled out Cambridge then? And I loved the scenery of BSMS but I prefer older unis so I ruled it out. Why don't you think your application is strong enough? And yeah Birmingham is amazing for medicine and anatomy apparently! Going to the open day on Saturday

I'm not Scottish, actually, but I visited it, and I just really liked it! I couldn't think of anything wrong of it, since it offered everything I wanted from a course
I ruled out Cambridge, I just don't think the course is suited to me at all, I'd like to learn with clincial exposure? As I feel I learn better by doing It's an amazing university, and I sort of want to apply there anyway, but, if the course isn't right, whats the point?
BSMS was just beautiful, the Brighton Falmer Campus was actually amazing
I don't have amazing GCSEs (don't get me wrong, they're very good, but not strong enough for the likes of Cardiff and Oxford) and I don't have a lot of work experience. I do have volunteer work, but, I fear it's not sufficient for some of the universities
I used the Birmingham score calculator, and while I go over the threshold, I don't feel I'm competitive enough It's also such a massive medical school, and I'd prefer something a bit more intimate

Have fun at the open day!

It's a really nice place! It's quite a small city, but it has everything you need, and it is a student city to be honest
The course is very good, since it has a spiral curriculum with full body dissection. They also have the final exam at the end of 4th year, and the elective in 5th year (I think) which I would love
