I HAVE A QUESTION (or two):

Regarding the rent: how does it work? I've not had any forms through the post, so I don't know if I have to pay a deposit, or if my student loan has to pay for the room tomorrow. I really don't don't want to turn up and find that the uni wants the money straight away and I don't have it.

Next one: I was supposed to be going to Sussex Uni this year but I've decided to come to Lampy; as a result, I don't yet have the sstudent finance form (for registering) that says I'm a student of Lampeter. Do you definately need this specific form to get your loan paid in? Or will I have to wait a stupid amount of time before I have any money?

    Thanks in advance.

    P.S. Who's bringing an iron/ironing board?

P.P.S I'm bring drum stuff! Crap drummer available!
    Don't worry.

I haven't had my student loan or grant through yet either, 'cause I was late with the application. All that happens is you fill out this form (which you can do on the day) and nothing will be taken out of your account until the 1st of november. So the loan should be ready by then. And all is sorted. Tada :P

I am not sure on the second question, but in regards to the first, when you got accommodation details, accommodation agreement etc you should have got forms and paying tuition fees and accommodaton fees. There was two standing order forms included as well, depending on how you wanted to pay your rent/fees. (eg, with rent either all at once using a credit card or cheque, or using a standing order and therefore in three installments.)

    Hope that helps.

What you've just said has got me a little worried. There was an option on there to pay in 3 installments, but using your debit card wasn't there? The debit card option wasn't only for paying all at once was it? I put to pay by debit card, but there's no way i can pay it all at once.

I just got an even bigger scare right now. Called up the finance office to find something out in filling out the Tuition fee payment form and got told that i was an international student and would have to pay £8000 a year. Damn nearly gave me a heart attack. It took me nearly an hour to talk with various people to sort the mess out and finally got through to the registrar who confirmed i was a home student and not an international student. Man these people suck.

Didn't mean to worry you! I got the debit card bit from the undergraduate booklet

    "Payment of tuition and accommodation fees is permitted either;

    In full:

    Cash
    Cheque
    Bankers Draft
    Telephonic transfer
    Debit Card
    Credit Card

    In Instalments

Standing order against a Visa, Mastercard British Bank or building society account payable termly."
Ah right, ok thank you! I seem to remember filling in the 3 installment amounts now.

Thanks Hoshi (and company); I feel a hell of a lot better now.

And whoever said that Lampeter sucks (well, the administration)... he he! I'm starting to get worried about those guys as well: they never pick up the phone, and they're just generally slow about EVERYTHING. I think it's the Welsh in them... it's so laid back.

Ta. I'm relieved about the November payment; I don't think I could be arsed with the stress of trying to find money I don't have.

I think I must be the only person who's been really impressed with the admin team at lampeter. All my enquieries have been dealt with in a prompt and efficient manner. They made it incredibly quick and easy for me to change my course too.

I must just be lucky because everyone seems to be having problems. I'm available for hire if anyone wants to use me to call Lampeter for them! :p:

What the hell!?!?!?!?!? I hope not. I'm not fifteen; I don't have a hidden stash of porn or anything. I can't imagine that they would do such a thing...

Anyway, Explosions: you're right, the administration is good. I just haven't been able to get through to anyone (no, actually, I did get through to one person I needed this week).

And no, I haven't packed! Everything's on the floor and I'm in a tizz! I'm still washing clothes (and, having just said that, I've gotta go a pick up some blankets from the laundrette - about 10 minutes ago). I'm still rooting around for drum sticks, because I have to hide them from my son.

So, I'll bet anyone a fiver (or a drink!) that I'm the least organised. And that I'll forget something fairly significant. Like my head.

You know, where you sign up to get internet in your room or something. Or to get the cables. I shall find the site a sec....

    http://www.lamp.ac.uk/ucs/

Says somewhere in there that they can check your computer at any time. I think at least. I hope they mean only when you violate some rule. Not that I have some kind of serious thing on my computer. Just films and music. lol.

Ah right yeah. It's a bit of an invasion of privacy if they do. I tried to read the 'acceptable use policy' but the page doesn't work. I should imagine it goes into more depth there.

this it what it says in the halls agreement "You agree that UCS technical staff may remove your computer (or computers if you have more than one) for investigation if at any time you are suspected of
breaching this agreement or the UWL AUP."

    hello all,
i have sneakily managed to infilitrate the student room by using my lamp email address to set up another account....

st davids hall: i wouldnt really worry about 15 people sharing the kitchen, i knew 3 people in st davids last year and none of them ever used it, so i would be more concerned with making friends with people who have a kitchen on their halls and using that one!

it test: in the first couple of weeks they do a little test thingy, and if you pass it you dont have to do i.t.

computer searching: no, they do not go through your computers.

being back in lampeter is odd. there is no one around really, its kind of desolate!

i am working in the extension on saturday night (drum and bass and techno.... ewwww) so, uh... i dunno if i will see you guys in there. if i do happen to serve you dont be mad if i go slow, i havent worked for agessss and cant remember anything.
working in the old bar on sunday night too.

basically, if you see me when im at work just say you're from tsr or something!

Does anyone know what there is in the way of shops that would sell stereo speakers in lampeter? Mine are too big to bring. They're about as big as a monitor each!

    So the IT test things...

Do you have to take them to be allowed to connect your computer to the network? I'd really like to be free on the 5th and 6th.

Someone I know up there said you don't have to take them on that day or something. You can wait and take them another time. She said she didn't bother attending them. Is this true? I'm still confused. lol.

    welcome back Finlay

That was me! I forgot that you'd be working on the Saturday as opposed to the Friday, which was when I asked. I was just passing through anyway (as you do... passing through the bar on the way to important, stuffy, academic 'stuff'!)

Anyway, I'll see you guys around...

BTW, someone bought me a drink on Friday... I think his name was Dean, I'm not sure. If you see me, demand that I buy you a drink back!!! I'm not scrounging!

    See yers all later...
