If you want to be an academic, I agree.

But the OP has no intention of becoming one. He just wants a grad job.

Things when you apply if the vacancies remain unfilled they have to put bums on seats, its paid from the taxpayer. So they reduce entry requirements, because when training people up its like school again. No points training a small class, so TFL and places take a risk on people. Likelihood is 7/10 people stay that is good. Same with NHS grad schemes, low entry.

So you're saying the 2.1 req is just a token, depending on if there are places or not ?

Depends where you apply too, i know quite a few people that got 2:2 and just scrapped that ended up working for government grad schemes. They are doing well in them because they just progress you overtime, provided your loyal etc, like the home office. Check out MI5 grad scheme it will make you laugh.

Its elitest, its factual, i went to soton also for a year, lol. So i can't really be elitest, lol. Its not nice giving someone £36k of debt when they may have better options or can try for better.

Tbh a levels are a joke. I worked hard for mine, but didn't do what was expected of me. All my friends at uni did far better at a level, and yet on the same course at a top 1% (supposedly) university I'm matching their grades quite easily. I think that's proof a levels aren't an accurate level of ability when it comes to university level work. In fact, one of my sem teachers told me to forget everything I learnt at a level and start again
