As long as someone called 'Bates' didn't have a Masters then it'll be all groovy

(Yes, I went there. Its 1:27am and I'm over tired )
This... I fondly remember some kid in our school being called Bates and having 'Master Bates' (or something very similar) on the address bar on his school report envelope.

"Sir" used to be used for graduates, at least of Divinity, in the Middle Ages and beyond. I came across this quite often when I was looking into a bit of local history.

YES!

The temptation to drop out before I've even started is tempting if I can be called Darth

But but  Bet I scared you away from Keele already :erm:

Darths have to stay in uni for at least one year before they can qualify to go over to the dark side

You do get one..... you can whack a BA after your name and the latin name of your University. So when I graduate I can stick 'BA Lond.' after my name, Cambridge grads use 'BA Cantab', York 'BA Ebor.' etc etc. Likewise you can stick MPhil, MSc, MA after your name.

Anyone who seriously uses BA after their name needs a slap mind, unless it's in a professional capacity.

My trumpet teacher was called Michael Bates and his son was Matthew Bates

Oh how I lol'ed :awesome:
My friend at school had Master A. Bates on his library card. That was brilliant. I think he was happy when his mother remarried and got them a new surname.

You've not scared me away! If you shout 'Darth' during the Freshers Evens and hear 'Master Bates' back then you'll have found me

I'll be murdered if I dropped out so I'm unlikely to be a 'Darth'

I know you can do that, but it's the title in front of the name I'm talking about

Alrighty then. :mmm:

It's a big place though. You'll have to shout it in the Library or no-one will hear you.
