I would be gutted if my boyfriend bought me a dress. Even if the size was right, you have to try it on to know it fits and in older women's shops (sorry Phase Eight), the sizes tend to be one bigger than they really are i.e. a size 10 girl fits in a size 8 dress.
Jewellery would probably go down better...

awww thats really sweet of you to find a dress and buy her it. Anyway it depends on what sort of stuff your gf likes, if she likes to dress up or is fairly casual on a night out (Someone else said the exact same thing i know). I would wear something less casual for my birthday personally. Coast do really nice party dresses x

It's her 18th maybe glam it up a bit more?? For my 18th I'd expect nothing less than Designer, Chic, perfectly fitted & absolutely glamorous eg:

Me? No chance.
If your gf was like 40 years old and a primary school teacher, then it'd be perfect. - 18th? Not so much.

I couldn't really say if your gf would like it as everyone has different styles and tastes, but personally, unless your 95% sure she'll love it, don't buy it!

Perhaps you could say that you'll take her on a shopping spree for one, and give her a budget or something to spend. That way, she can choose it herself, and trust me, she'll really appreciate you coming along with her, especially as guys usually HATE shopping! (that is, of course if you don't spend the day complaining!)

Hi all,

Looking at getting my girlfriend a dress for part of her 18th- and was just after opinions on this dress- but I'm clueless when it comes to what girls like really! Am I slightly on track, or way off course?

Thanks for any input!
Ah wow , you are one seriously caring guy for scouting for a dress for your girlfriends birthday, but most guys dont really know what girls like so here you go mate:

Nononono, shes 18 and i doubt she would appreciate wearing something that looks like 1950's wallpaper.

Look on ASOS, or even better get a female friend of hers to help you.

For the sake of your relationship, DO NOT buy that dress! Plus, if that dress is a product of your choice, do not exercise your choice. Either don't buy her clothes, or go shopping with someone else.

Don't buy that dres sunless you know she likes that style. Most 18 year old girls would not wear that though. Maybe you could take her shopping and let her pick one? Or try something like motel rocks, newlook, dorothy perkins, miss selfridges, warehouse or topshop. Phase 8 I think is aimed mroe at middle ahed women.

Sorry, but most of those aren't nice. Especially that blue and white one and the peach one with ruffles! Ew

I really would let her choose something herself.. I wouldn't trust anyone to buy clothes for me!

Also dress sizes can be a bit dodgy, and I don't want to be rude but that dress does look like it's for 30 year olds plus.. not an 18 year old!

Can't you buy her something else or let her choose and just pay for it?

No its quite frankly horrible I think really your WAAAAY off. Especially for someone turning 18.
Look for something shorter and tighter with either no print or a modern print.

Look here
http://www.asos.com/Women/Dresses/Oc...ize=20&sort=-1

And ask her friends before you buy.

It's a sweet idea but not sure about that particular dress tbh. Asking one of her friends to help would be good?
If you decide not to go for a dress, jewellery is always nice for an 18th
