    I've tried a few of the ideas over at XDA. I've not been able to get much more battery life

    You will not lose anything when rebooting the phone
    But changing to a new android build will make you lose everything. But its easily backed up by apps like titanium backup, so its not a massive issue

    To add to the post just above, some updates, you can delete everything except data.img and it will keep all your files etc. pictures and stuff are stored directly on the sd, so you dont lose them when changing builds
