I'm possibly travelling alone. I've never done this, assuming i'm staying in a hostel, would it be easy to just randomly chat to people and make friends? I stayed in a hostel in london once and the people there was nice A bit random but nice!

I love the Schwarzwald! There is just so much variety there and nice people too. It's very accessible from Strasbourg.
The cities of Baden-Baden, Freiburg and Karlsruhe are unmissable, particularly the palace in the latter.

    Enjoy yourself, wherever you go!

Munich! beautiful place with lots of things to do.
If you're going in winter, the alpes are nearby so maybe you wanna do some skiing?
its also close to some famous old castles (Neuschwanstein etc.)...
