I'll quite happily go and sit in bar and have a drink. I have been doing just that for the last few days. Glass of whisky and the Cricket. It's great.

I dare say some people think I'm a little sad but to be honest I don't give a moinkeys what they think. I don't want or need the approval of other people to know whether I'm enjoying myself or not.

And also every night I've been to watch the Cricket I have invariably got chatting to other people sat watching. I find it very relaxing after a stressful day. Finish my meetings go home watch the telly, cook some dinner, do a bit of paper work and then go and watch the Cricket for a couple of hours.

    It's very relaxing.

Strange thing is I very very rarely drink on my own at home.

No, strange edit, I guess your drinking now?
Anyway I must revise, I'm not blessed with the ability to drink and learn. Peace out.

No, I'm not drinking now and I haven't edited a thing. You are attempting to devalue my argument by fabricating a straw man fallacy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man

So I'm quite simply informing you, you're an idiot.

Don't you socialise, interact with others? I can't drink alone it just defeats the object; a sociable drink.
it defeats the object of a sociuable drink because not to socialise negates sociable but "drinking" doesn't imply sociable and there is no reason why one can't drink alone. that said people who drnk alone have too many problems so many that they have to add problems to their problems with substance abuse.

and people who need substances to enhance their intellect lack intellect.

You are welcome to think that. But you are wrong. I'm devastated to think people like you come from my city. Your almost as bad as the scalls.

Well my parents frequently just have a glass of wine in the evening when they are on their own (one of them at work and me on the computer) and I think that's pretty normal.
If it gets to the point that you're getting wasted on your own and can't get through the day without a drink, you've crossed the line into problem drinking.

I don't have a big problem with it. I can quite easily (and quite happily) sit down with a few cans while watching a film, or a glass of wine while i'm cooking or something.

I work in a bar, and the only reason I (sometimes) go to drink there alone, is because I know the staff anyways......I couldn't just go into a random pub and stand there and drink until drunk.

I get depressed if I drink alone (one or two tins is ok though). Drinking is supposed to be a social thing even if that's just with one or two other people.

That has nothing to do with it. Intellectual curiosity and the ability for the mind to understand complex, abstract concepts is dramatically enhanced under intoxication.

I'm talking Quantum Physics and M-Theory here, not Foundation Level Interior Design and HGV-Intermediate.
You've obviously never studied QM - Don't ever drink and derive.

I like to drink with a few mates, maybe if it's just me and one other having a laugh, but by myself would just be lame!

Why would you be devastated to think people like OP come from your city? That seems rather sad, to be devastated by someone who has a different opinion than you of doing something harmless in their spare time.

Regardless of how you see it morally, how can people not see a substance (in this case, alcohol) is not innately sociable? Seems bizarre to me.

Personally, I don't enjoy having that many drinks by myself as I used get ridiculously drunk by myself when very upset, so it would feel weird now I'm over that to do it again. I think gennnerally it is a bit sad to drink by yourself, but not in all cases, and maybe that's because I have abused alcohol that I think that as a (admitted) generalisation. It doesn't bother me that OP does, for example, as it seems to distress lazy smurf.

You've got to be very careful in my opinion, alcohol is the most dangerous drug of all
