Perhaps we should have a big no-friends get together?

Anyone want to go buy ribbons in town with me?

I kinda feel the same; I have made friends, really great friends but I dont feel like I have made many and there has been times where I wish I had more friends to go out with :/

..the Tea society sounds very interesting
    I might join during Refreshers.

Hey, I found your post searching on google for info about the refreshers fair at Kent.
All I can say is you are certainly not alone. I'm pretty frustrated too, only joined one group/club and am desperate to find more at the refreshers fair. I also think I have spent far too much time doing nothing on my own, mostly out of shyness and have failed to make enough friends. I can say ditto to basically everything you've listed here, so you aren't alone!

This is exactly how I feel! So glad not to be alone with this! Refreshers sounds great, I felt too shy to go places and meet people on my own meaning of course that I've only really met people who are are like my housemates. They're nice enough I guess, but I do feel that we're still just being polite to each other rather than really friendly. Tea society sounds good though, I'd already heard about it but thought everyone there would know each other already so haven't been here's to changing that this term Also, HP Lovecraft is awesome. I recently got a copy of the Necronomicon- I get drawn in whenever I pick it up Does anyone know any other particularly newbie-friendly societies?

There will be so many societies there and as I can see (from my other societies emails) that current members will be on hand for people to meet and chat about the societoes with. I can see this being better than the freshers fayre tbh!

Back to Canterbury on Saturday :woo:

Oh Faustus, you don't need to plug LGBT here. Your sig is so big and colourful you can practically see it in every thread on this forum.

Now is a good a time as any to join societies, cos you won't generally be the only "new" person there.

Caving had about 5 new people last week.

          It's awesome.

          You should totally join caving

Nooo, not at all. With some societies it may be best to join after the holiday.

You're more than welcome to join the Armenian Soc
          there's an Armenian soc?
          Did not know this x)

On a different note OP, if you're into drama at all T:24 does new shows each term, and anyone can audition without actually having to join ^^

There is indeed! :p: We founded it just under a year ago, and it's a small group, but we do exist
We actually just got hoodies made, so you may well see them around campus.

Oh, and anyone is welcome to join.

Interesting! What do you guys do? I have a little Armenian in me, enough for people to look and say 'you look a bit foreign'

Need to actually do some socialising this year x)

Really?! You should totally come along to one of our meetings sometime How little is your Armenian bit?

Our main activity is hanging out in Patisserie Valerie, to be honest :p: But we've also done a film screening, debate and some fundraising etc. We're in the process of planning an event at the moment, actually.

A quarter (paternal grandmother ^^) I've never been to Armenia though, my only real exposure to the culture or anything was through occasional family gatherings and a bit of cooking.

Well that sounds pretty cool Maybe I'll come some time ^^

Depending on whether the society is holding a show or doing something they need to work all year round on, I think joiinging societies around Christmas or first few weeks of second semester is fine.
At Leeds they have taster weeks all year round to go see what the societies are like, so I don't think its ever really too late
