Well then, please provide some examples of music you enjoy. Also your narrow minded opinion regarding the genre is only stopping you from enjoying quality music. If you dont like rapping theres always the instrumental side lol
The instrumental side is possibly what I hate the most. Every rap song I've heard just consists of the same little electronic beat, like someone pressed 'demo' on a keyboard but worse. I absolutely cannot find any enjoyment in that musical style. If you enjoy it, that's great, but you're wasting your time trying to convert me.

If you insist on me providing examples of music I enjoy then you're welcome to listen, but it's difficult for those not accustomed to the style:

Ill be honest with you i like both of those alot haha

My metal tastes are predominantly Grindcore (Dripping, Prostitute Disfigurement etc) Scandinavian Symphonic (Leaves Eyes, Elis, Sirenia etc) and i am partial to a bit of Burzum esk Black metal although ill be honest im nowhere near up to date with all the new sub genres as it is quite a broad field of different people doing different styles.

Alot of my mates who like metal love Dalek who warm up for Tool. They use a lot of distorted guitar riffs and sludgey drum samples

I'm not saying I don't like Giggs, but that post would've just dumbed down this thread by 10 levels.

    lol ty.

I do come across as quite a cultist when i talk about music, theres too much out there that i like, it is a bit arrogant of me to think others should though as music is much more to some people than others, especially if you grew up in a proper scene.

ty for those links, ill get on a youtube search later to see what i can make of em!

loooool. You critisize Hip Hop for its instrumental side and then post death metal videos. That has to be one of the most sonically unapealing genres I have ever heard, the two songs sound very similar to add to that. Those songs were truly an abomination to my ears

Nowhere near true, most hip hop is sampled and produed on drum/sample mahines. Not saying death metal doesnt take tlent, that would be ignorant. but it sounds much more similar than any other genre that comes to mind.

And before you make the point that if music is made electronically and not with instruments it requires less talent, real musical talent is in the mind, not how fast you can move your limbs in time. It's like saying the electric guitar is cheating.

What is the difference between a poem, and this song?

    Beautiful dont you think?
This is dumb. The lyrics are so mostly nonsensical and meaningless. With rap I always get the impression of people patronising black people 'Wow! He just rhymed 'hoes' with 'flows', he's so deep and artistic'. Rap is a tool of black suppression, keeps them separate and inferior, which is obv terrible.
Compare this rubbish to someone (black or white) who has either studied literature at university or had classical musical training.

This is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. For the past 30 years rap and hip hop has been one of the most potent forms of black liberation and expression since the Harlem Renaissance. Hip Hop has also broken boundaries between racial barriers through the common love of music and is one of the few arenas in which Black Americans have been able to take ownership of their craft and become multi-millionaires (e.g. Sean Combs, Russel Simmons, Jay-Z, Dame Dash etc.) so I dont know where you are getting seperate and inferior from. "studied literature at university" Black people don't study Literature. We do proper subjects at uni like Engineering, Law and economics

Makes more sense than LIKE A G6 or 'are we human or are we dancer' to me.. its subjective, you didn't say 'are all' so ill assume you found something in there although it is rich with metaphors and abstract thought.

Why? Something thats good is good, you dont need a degree or training to accomplish anything. Vangelis for example is self taught composer who liked to paint.

I think you'll find most people think rap about hoes and guns is crap. My old teacher is in a duet sorta thing where he and his friend try to break the barrier people seem to think between rap and poetry, but putting on an act of well. My english teacher being an english teacher and his mate being a rap star. Their called "Dead Poets" and they are hilarious and becoming more and more popular throughout the UK, but I agree that some people do see rap as simply crap because they think it's all about guns and ****. It's balls, but I still find eminem amazing ;D
Rap is not all about the guns and ****... You probably don't know anything about rap/hip-hop ,where it derived from, and about all kinds of stuff from the 80's up until now, you probbaly just know lil-wayne - lollipops, and the mainstream stuff. Don't judge.

    (Original post by Nichrome)
It's boring as **** basically. I don't want to listen to some guy mumble over a ****ty programmed electronic tune about his wimminz.
Maybe because you don't know good rap, you probably only know the mainstream music like lil wayne and 50 cent, you don't know real music/artists.

    (Original post by skyhigh!)
Yup, but sadly most people think rap = 50 cent.
    Sadly,yes.

    (Original post by pina.Love)
people would listen more if the beat wasn't so ****.
All artists must have the same beat machine/software cos it all sounds the same.
Stop listening to the same crap mainstream music then, there's thousands of artists that use different beats. Of course music will sound the same if you're going to listen to songs from the TV charts :/

Letter to my son. Say no more.

Joe Budden: "Music is just what feelings sound like." IMO, no other genre deals with issues as deep as rap can.

People from all walks off life commit crimes, including a small minority of rappers. No ****. This is perhaps the most meaningless and useless comment I have seen on the TSR, and your evidence of a mugshot of one rapper, Snoop Dogg, is just hilarious. Nice one.

All kinds of hip hop are good in my book, from alternative socially-conscious rap to hood bangers. It's a completely different culture and I think a lot of people that diss hip hop's commodity fetishism, preoccupation with violence etc. misinterpret it as brainless when it's giving us a glimpse at an underclass created by economic deprivation and institutionalised racism through the perspective of those who grew up surrounded by it. Hip hop doesn't have to break the fourth wall to be making a statement.

As for Nichrome: death metal and black metal are two genres which are far less lyrically diverse than hip hop (except for arguably in the last five years or so, USBM has been making a lot of progress), and that's coming from someone whose first love musically was metal and who's written for a metal mag. When's the last time Gorguts wrote anything socially relevant?

I'm not a fan of rap in general, but the song above is something I can see the enjoyment. However a song about going into a club and shagging some '*****' or 'hoe' and then driving off in a flashy car and doing drugs.... no thanks. Perhaps you could say the crap songs have spoilt it for the good ones?
True that, but you probably haven't listened to the golden era of hip hop. Plus many genres have songs along those lines, but then again you probably only listen to mainstream pop.
