Because she was put here by the grace of God. Her bloodline has been specially selected for its looks, charm, charisma, wit (just look at Philip!) and ability to wave. They are the chosen ones.
Phillip's not in her bloodline, genius.

Good point. Do I get in your sig for that?

The excellent taste and discernment that led her to pick Philip out of the many eligible bachelors across the world is though.

Sits alone crying as her nation crumbles around her. She has the power to stop it but if she ever tried to use it the people would see it as tyranny and rebel, overthrowing her. So she weeps for her impotence and signs the laws brought to her, whispering in the ears of government, hoping beyond hope that one day they will listen.

    She assents to bills.
    Appoints the Prime Minister
    She dissolves parliament
    Royal visits
    figurehead
    symbolic role
Technically has the power to dismiss ministers/prime ministers

Despite people thinking she does 'nothing' and is 'useless' her popularity has been far more constant than most governments.

Also, technically she can refuse Royal Assent, so you could argue she is able to keep a check on Parliament - in case it passes some terrible tyrannous law.

Appoints prime minster? More like shakes the hand who wins and thats probs it. We appoint the prime minster, not her. She just shakes the winners hand.
Royal Visits ? For her enjoyment.
Symbolic Role/ Figure Head? As in role model - if so anyone whose daft enough to say that the Queen is my role model should be shot. She hasnt dont anything for us

She can appoint anybody she chooses to be Prime Minister... it's just generally this is someone from HOL/Commons and now is the leader of the party that is able to form a majority government. She has the power to appoint who she wants... not that she would. She's doing it because it is her job as one of the representatives of Britain to do this. It's not personal choice...

Yeah, cos when you're a 58 year old woman the thing you get most enjoyment out of is jetting round the world for like... one day to shake hands and wave at people you don't know. Please. I'm sure it's stupidly tiring and definitely not what she would want to be doing.

And who said role model? Both symbolic and figurehead do not mean those things. Maybe you should look them up before you start adding words.

And she brings in tourism. She's politically neutral and hasn't been involved in any major controversy, particularly. She always acts in a dignified fashion and is really a good FIGUREHEAD of Britain. Whether she does anything or not isn't really relevant - she is popular with the public and her role is to be a symbol and a figurehead and to represent Britain with dignity and grace - this is what she does. Whether you think so or not.

Who would you rather have on the money? David Cameron's shiny head?

If you got rid of the queen, you'd have to appoint a president or some other figurehead of the UK with limited power - who would earn about the same and the same amount of money would be pumped into that office - with no real discernible difference.

Plus the whole concept of the monarchy really brings tourists in.

If you're going to go for the whole touristy attraction thing you have to do it properly, crowns and all. We can't have a halfarsed royal family. No one goes to the Netherlands to see their queen riding around on her bicycle.
