I agree, you've got to just get past it and go out and do your own thing. And if it doesn't work that way have someone you can fall back on. I dunno what uni is like but I turned 18 in August and have loved going out since (although I'd been out a good few times before I turned 18), I defo recommend trying it before uni cos I reckon you're maybe expected to already have some clubbing experience by then...? Oh, and by the way, who says your friends have to have all the fun? I wasn't the most outgoing person say a year ago but I realised that standing about feeling lonely and not enjoying yourself is just a disadvantage to you. It happened to me one night and I just said to myself, "You're here now, why not just have my own fun?" Although your friends should be there for support and safety you don't always have to hang with them, it can be annoying for them to if you expect them to I suppose.

Don't do what I did the first time though... got myself insanely drunk because I was compensating for the lack of friends with me... ended up boking at the side of the road on the way home...
    haha

    Hope I've helped a little x
Haha, yes I think I need to have some fun too and maybe meet some friends who wouldn't be gone the second I looked around... I don't want to seem clingy - I don't think I do, but I don't want to feel like a loser when one of them's going around chatting to all these people I don't know

Yea, I get you. My friends and I always used to promise that we'd always stick together and not run off, but we ALWAYS end up splitting up (as mentioned before it is kinda inevitable). My best friend always has the best intentions and always runs off with a guy in the end  I'll not go into the situations I've gotten her out of though haha...
Don't worry about it though, there will soon be lots of people who are 18 and I'm sure it won't be half as difficult when you know there'll be more than a few people you know there. I live outside Belfast but go to school there, and we always socialise in the clubs a lot of my year go to. Once someone mentions it, it's funny how suddenly everyone's going to the one place! It just shows you though that everyone likes to have someone else they can hang about with if you're floating about on your own, you're not alone. Don't attach yourself to too few people if you know what I mean :boing:
And you're definitely NOT a loser for feeling awkward when friends are chatting away to people you don't know! I recommend making your own friends, drunken friendships are funny too, but you gotta be careful with that haha
Relax, let yourself have a bitta craic (not crack... the irish alternative to fun... LOL!)

When I first turned 18 all my friends went to uni and basically i didnt know anyone. I really wanted to go clubbing. I hadnt even kissed a girl until I went clubbing on my 18th birthday pretty much by myself. For 2 months I went to nightclubs by myself. I am a male and yes I do realise there is a difference.

    But grow some balls
