    I'm in the same situation yellow...but evantej, i couldn't have put it better than yellow. Not only will this allow to spent some time with your girl, it will allow you to re-evaluate the situation. If you decide you definately need the PGCE then do it after your PhD.

    Whatever you decide, I wish you all the best.

    As for me, i will be starting the PGCE this year regardless as I don't have anything else to do and have just finished work as it was the end of my contract. Hopefully in 2012 I will then start my PhD...i have received half the funding from the government, i need the other half from the uni and i'm sure i'll get that as the government is quite keen to get this project off the ground.
