    No point trying to modify your life outside the gym to fit in a meal every few hours. Eat 3-4 times, big meals. Simple as that.

    If you go to the gym that may be possible. But when doing a longer sport I agree with you - it is virtually impossible to get 6 meals a day if you are exercising over four hours a day.

    There's not really a difference between eating 6 meals or 3 meals, so long as the macronutrients are the same.

    You don't go catabolic in 8 hours, that's just not how human physiology works.
