    Illmatic.

Kanye's latest album is the best HipHop has seen for a long time. Nothing apart from Eminem, Food and Liquor and Get Rich or Die Trying, and Kanye's own work, has been even remotely close to it...

    Nah it ain't the greatest...

Just benchmark piece of Hip-Hop, set the standards for others to follow, therefore people say it's the greatest.
What do you reckon then? It's a tough one.

    Greatest Hip-Hop albums?

Dunno man, I don't listen to alot of Hip-Hop so only really know the mainstream rappers...

I just think Illmatic is very overrated by Nas fanboys, it set standards like I said, but ya know, it's all about personal preference

I think very highly of Illmatic and I am hardly a Nas fanboy - in fact, Illmatic is the only album he has ever done that I like at all. He peaked way too soon in his career in my opinion.

Also, I forgot to mention 'Paid in Full' by Eric B & Rakim in my previous post. That is another classic album.

Most rappers start off better than when they finish.... that is, indeed, why they finish. 50 Cent, Snoop, Nas and Eminem all bear testament to that. Kanye would have done so too, if his last album wasn't the best hip hop album since 2002, and Dre will also bear testament to that if Detox isn't that big.

Seriously though, Detox will be the biggest album... Ever. Kush is an instant classic, apparently I Need A Doctor is off Detox, all the signs are good. I just wish Dre would rap a bit more on his own songs, 2 verses in songs is just not enough, considering Eminem, Snoop and Akon did 4 verses....

To be honest I do not rate 50 Cent at all and although I do like NWA and some of Dre's earlier material, I cannot imagine liking Detox much, though I would like to be proven wrong.

Yeah, I don't think Detox will be anything special, Dre's been stuck on using dusty piano loops for a while.
