You usually get to VP after 6 years in an investment bank. 3 years as an analyst, 3 years as an associate, then you get promoted.
By the time you get to VP, you'll be making around 120K at most bank, and usually get a bonus from anything from 100% to 300% of your base salary!

But that is for M&A, I am not sure what they get in trading but my guess is that it is very similar!
What about Research, and Private banking?

Research base salaries are about the same. bonuses are usually lower though (around 100%, maybe less), except for the top ranked research people who can earn millions (all depends on how successful your recommendations are!)
Private banking is probably slightly less in term of base and bonuses much lower, maybe 150-200 all in if you are good.
