I believe that the action of the IDF were inexcusable in some they are justifiable. Just because their actions may not be as bad as those of the russian in chechnya does not mean that they still don't have many flaws.
The UK had ONE suicide bombing and the result is that the police operates a shoot to kill policy which has already seen a completely innocent man dead. Do you have any idea how many such bombings Israel has had? How trigger happy do you think the British police and military would be under similar conditions? The Israelis did respond with a full investigation into the matter, and this has resulted in a charge and punishment. Can you say the same about the British shoot to kill policy?

The Israelis shoot-to-kill policy is stricter than the UK's. Israeli police need to see an explosive device before they can legitimately open fire, UK police officers do not need to, as was seen last July. And this is despite the fact that Israel has had hundreds of bombings and the UK has had one attack.
In the same way, considering the resources at their disposal the Israeli response to the terror threat they face has been remarkably limited. No other country would tolerate what Israel does and still be pressured to take less action and be more lenient. Imagine if rockets landed in the UK or US or France on a daily basis, would their governments sit back and take it? Would the world pressure them not to respond? Yeah, right.
