Ignore what other people say, do what you want to do!

Everybody said the same thing to me, but it really is what you make it. The best advice I can give is if it is what you want to do then do it... But make sure you take every opportunity along the way... Make sure you volunteer/organise work placements to make yourself stand out. I graduated this time last year, I don't regret a second of it!!

If you want to anything else give me a shout

Oh thank you for your advice! And congrats on your graduation - i have a couple of questions if thats okay... What sort of work placements did you do? I'm thinking maybe in the courts or something if I can and look into applying to be a special constable? Also have you been employed in the criminology area? Because I'm a bit worried that I won't get into a job relevant to my degree? Thank you for your help!

I did a placement at Hampshire Constabulary, in the Fingerprint Bureau, the Chemical Treatment Unit and on Scenes of Crime.

Do you know what you want to do after? If you want to go into the police then definitely go down the Specials route. If not, then just try as much as you can and at least you can rule stuff out if you don't like it!

Yep, I managed to get a relevant job, working for Hampshire as a Police Staff Investigator, only just started, but it is awesome. I mostly interview suspects, but get to do witness statements and other investigative stuff too

I wouldn't worry too much about what will happen when you finish, I didn't have a clue what I wanted to do when I was a fresher, I just knew that I had a genuine interest and would enjoy the course. Obviously it does help to justify it if you have a master plan though! Just go for it and see what bits of the course you do and don't like and then go from there

Ah I see thank you! I'm really not sure where I want to go after, I've always wanted to be in the police! But I am open to seeing where this degree will take me your job sounds perfect!! Thank you though, you've given me confidence to just do it!

Hey! Have confirmed my offer to study criminology in Durham Uni.
Also applied to York, Lancaster, Exeter.
All of these seem to be rather unpopular choices for criminology in here. If I may ask, why so?

Thinking of maybe specialising in cybercrime, as there's a NATO cybercrime center in Tallinn. Though, not sure.
