It's known as the 'refractory period'. All of the innate behaviours present in humans are the result of evolution by natural selection, and as such can be investigated by asking what benefit the adoption of a given behaviour has. Believed to be responsible for the effect is the release of the chemical prolactin, an inhibitor of dopamine release (dopamine is a key chemical involved in feelings of sexual arousal).

An interesting related phenomenon is the 'Coolidge effect', whereby males express a renewed interest in sex if introduced to a new partner even in this period of inhibited sexual desire. This makes the case fairly clear cut in terms of the natural selective pressures involved: sex with the same partner immediately after ejaculation is a waste of time and energy, whereas sex with a new partner will not be.

For more info see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Refract...riod_%28sex%29
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prolactin
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coolidge_effect

Thanks! I always assumed it was just a sort of 'cool-down' mechanism to replenish the necessary chemicals for further ejaculation.

Cos you **** too much and that's the kind of ****ed up stuff that you need to get turned on. Once you're not horny anymore (after you finish), normal sense returns.

This was a mechanism we evolved in order to stop us having sex constantly. After sex, it was necessary to become disinterested, or else we'd continue seeking pleasure from it to the detriment of other survival/reproductive needs.
So it's actually science's fault

This is what has totally put me off watching porn, I always just feel so horrified and sad afterwards.
Especially as someone who considers themself a feminist and the fact the guys are all absolutely minging. Just makes me feel like a disgusting person.
Hey, leave those guys alone. They're empowered young males who are breaking down social stigmas and disregarding our old fashion and outdated mentality, one load at a time!

Nothing wrong with being a feminist. I don't have a problem with porn per se, just as long as it is 'free range', if you get what I mean

I dont think its directly related to the porn. Something happens to us males as soon as we ejaculate its like a switch has been turned off. Everytime I think to myself wtf am I doing?! lol Its like your whole complete perspective suddenly changes. Its natures way of saying "Walk away now, youve done your job" lol. I dont think females have this, whats strange is how sudden that feeling is but usually it wears off after a phew minutes and I just feel a little drained lol.

There's plenty wrong with being a feminist. Having a distorted and myopic understanding of history, manipulating statistics, misandry, silencing tactics, failure to acknowledge men's issues despite claiming to be for `equality', failure to take a joke, general inability to argue logically, etc etc.

(I'm female) I don't find it disgusting after I orgasm and still have porn on.. I switch it off but don't feel shameful, I'm usually too caught up in post-orgasm glee to even think that :ahee:

But seriously, you guys feel like porn's disgusting after you watch it? I'm surprised. Why?!

No more the woman involved is happy and healthy (and the man too of course!)

I do worry about its effects on sexual preference though. I know I moved on from very vanilla when I watched it to stuff I would never EVER want to do in reality. Grim.

Well that was kinda my question and the point of this thread...

But seriously, sometimes after you ejaculate you look at the porn and it just looks disgusting.

Yes that is wrong. Like the ones who generalise. Or have a distorted and myopic understanding of feminism.

Not all feminists are like this
