Hi all, just want to give an update about myself as an independent full-time CFAB student and hopefully this will help anyone in the similar situation as me. I know that most big4 graduates are given only one week to revise for each paper. Self-studying is different because without being given the pressure from BPP/ Kaplan/ sponsoring employer, it is not easy to stay focused when one is alone at home and you can get sidetracked by a lot of other things going on in life (house moving, job hunting, family and friends visiting, cooking, travelling, dating, driving lessons, youtube, facebook! ) It is just like going back to university.

I started studying full-time in March because I know i would have less chance to succeed if i was working and then doing this half-heartedly. I had no background in accountancy/ finance/ business at all. I purchased the Kaplan distant learning courses (£150) for two papers - I personally believe this is only necessary for the Accounting module because it is truely hard to get my head around the concept  by reading the long-winded study manual. It is fine to rely solely on the ICAEW materials (study manual and question bank (each set costs £30 plus postage) and online sample paper (that's free)) for other knowledge modules, although practising on the mock papers on the Kaplan/ BPP may increase your confidence level. On average there was a two/three-week interval between each exam. It took me two weeks to study each paper (with a lot of distractions) but I reckon for sometime who is highly intensive and hardcore one week will just do.

Pleas remember to book your exam time slot on Pearson Vue website at least three weeks in advance because most exam centers are very busy.Be realistic when selecting the date. Even though you can always reschedule the exam given one day's notice, that may delay significantly your progress as you are unlikely to find another available time slot within the next few weeks. Alternatively you can do it in one of the Kaplan/ BPP centres and one week advanced booking is required (fixed dates and less flexible to change). Exam fee is £65.

    Good luck everyone!
