Hypocritical housemate wants to fine me £5 !!! watch

1. (Original post by de_monies)
Bloody hell. When you're ill, you can't be expected to clean the kitchen up to it's full state. Maybe clean it up a little, but this is a bit... far

I googled how much fans use in terms of power consumption, and in general I've seen 35 - 50W. Which is way off 300W that I previously thought

Anyway, let's assume you pay expensive electricity prices at 0.15p/KwH

Here's my calculations

35W

0.15/1000= £0.00015 (per watt)
0.00015p * 35 = £0.00525 for one hour of fan use
£0.00525 * 72 = £0.378

If it's 50W

0.15/1000= £0.00015 (per watt)
0.00015p * £0.0075 for one hour of fan use
£0.0075 * 72 = £0.54

It's hardly any thing

Oh and remember I intentionally used a high electricity cost. I think the "normal" cost is around 12p/KwH
Thank you so much! This is fantastic! There's no way I'm paying that bloody fine now!!
2. Cross through it stick up for yourself it's 5 quid you could buy a foot long subway with that plus fans use hardly any energy it's the water bills which are a pain
3. Why an earth would you even consider paying the 'fine'. And what's this about going to your Landlord?! They have better things to do than waste time with immature children.

Tell Mr Bossy to pipe down and, in the nicest way possible, grow a pair!
4. Okay two solutions here, first is more complex than the second..

1) Make some cupcakes for the household as an apology. When you see the guy who's asked for this "fine", make sure you give him his yourself. Either put everyone's on little plates so it looks less dodgy or better yet try and make it so everyone has had some before he sees them. The ones you're giving to him are going to have had laxative crushed up and mixed into the butter cream icing (maybe use more sugar then the usual ratio to cover up any taste they have). Once he's been affected by them, remember to leave a note "£5 fine for stinking out the toilet and leaving it in a state."

2) Write underneath this "£5 fine" thing.... "someone REALLY needs to get laid", if you wish you may include those statistics on the electricity only costing 50p or what ever that the other poster on this thread worked out.
5. Tell him to go **** himself with the fines board. What can he actually do? Laugh in his face, I would.
6. lol what a prick. Like other people have said on this thread, what is he going to do if you don't pay? Take you to court?

Seriously, I hope I don't have to deal with this kind of **** when I go to university.
7. Tell him to suck your **** for £5.
8. Why are you living with such a douche ? Damn I wonder what someone who sets 'fines' like a 7 year old playing towns look like. Your fine in my opinion should be sit on the stairs for 1 minute at most lol

No probs. And bear in mind that 15p is an expensive rate

I prefer the first idea

Even if electricity cost 20p (ie: really expensive electricity), then the OP would pay between 50.4p and 72p for three days use of the fan

At 12p/KwH, it's somewhere between 30.24p and 43.2p

The cost isn't that much

EDIT: 15p is not longer an "expensive" charge. It's just above average

But still it doesn't cost that much
10. Let me guess, wannabe tax man?

Don't pay the fine, especially as it's going to him.
11. Hahaa, your mate should see my flat- he'd have a nervous breakdown.

I'm tempted to give up my sort code given your dedication towards the calculation of da monies.

How much more tempting is needed?

I just like working stuff like this out, because it helps me think in terms of long term running costs ie: I can sometimes justify spending an extra £50 on a laptop for instance, if it saves more than that over it's lifetime
14. I'm sorry but this is ****ing ridiculous. I can't believe you have been paying fines to him, wtf. If he tried pulling that **** on me I'd tell him to go **** himself.
15. Haha, reminded me of this, don't pay the fine but just remember it could be a lot worse: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/p...r-tenants.html
16. Get the fiver and light it in front your housemates face.

Well that's a waste of a fiver! Print a sample fiver off, and burn that instead. Much cheaper

I like how you're dealing in terms of subway meals lol.

Electricity costs a lot when most people in the house have desktop PC's and not laptops Water is cheap for us
19. Charge him £10 for imposing improper fines.
20. I'd tell the ******** to get himself to ****.
