I have a job I worked really hard to get, and I probably wouldn't want to be doing anything else...

So I do enjoy it a bit, but I still find it difficult getting up for work. Doing something 40 hours a week, however interesting you find it, is also difficult.

So yes, I do enjoy my work but I would prefer to only do a few days a week!

If I won millions on the lottery I would probably quit my job, certainly after a few years - there are so many other things I'd like to do with my time.

That's not even a quarter of the week. You can spend over 75% of your time doing something else.

I used to work in hospitality, and whilst I never really enjoyed the work itself there were some jobs where I got on really well with my colleagues which made it enjoyable enough.

Now I'm a student ambassador and I actually enjoy the work itself, which is something of a revelation.

Nahh I can understand his point

Even say a M-F 9-5 job for example

Say we need 8 hours sleep and we need to be up at 7.30 in order to be ready, commute and at work on time.

Also say the commute takes half an hour.

That only leaves 5.30-11.30 in free time, plus weekends.

Part of me wishes we'd move to a 4 day week. Would shrink the economy but everyone would be far happier.

Yeah, its still 25% of my whole life. That isn't small change, its the second largest thing that eats up my time other than sleeping. Plus that's assuming I don't do any overtime.

Taking into account sleeping I have about 40% of my life to do something else.

    Its less than you think!

    Do you work full time?

I'm lucky enough to get paid for doing something that I genuinely love. If I didn't get paid, I know I would carry on- because I did for years before I started getting paid! The only problem would be that I'd have to tone it down a little because obviously I'd have to take another job as well, as I'd need the money.

Welcome to the world of work. Most working people have to get up for work and doing 40 hours a week is a common thing for people working full time as well.
Oh I've been in the world of work for years...

Not really. I don't hate going to work, I just don't enjoy it. I'm pretty much just working for the money now. At times it's nice but otherwise, meh. I start at 7 so I have to wake up at 6am every Saturday but I finish at 2.30 which isn't too bad - at least I have the rest of the day left to chill.
what job do you do? those are pretty good hours.

I like my salary and hours more than my job.

I occasionally enjoy my work but I'd say its probably about 40% enjoyment 60% boredom with the actual work. The people I work with though are good fun so when bored we end up just talking.

Yeah I like them. I usually wake up at 6/7 on weekends and holidays too. I work as a dining assistant (basically a waiter) at Sunrise Senior Living. If you haven't heard of it, it's an assisted living home for elderly people. Not a care/nursing home, it's more of a retirement home for wealthy people, but it specialises in care for people with dementia.

Well you will be used to it then. Your job might not be perfect, no ones is- but if you didnt go to work, you wouldnt have money. You still have the rest of the hours in the week to do whatever else you want.
