But wasn't that triangle flipped in a line too?

    Yeah I got 9x^2+108x+72=0 I think

    I don't think so?

    Woops, I think I had 24x^2 something....

The sine to cosine was really weird. I got there in the end, but I think there was a fair amount of "fudging" going on - I split the surd/fraction into two fractions, then dividing them both by the cos(pi/4), which I wouldn't have been able to do if they didn't give the answer, so I dunno if I'll get the marks for that one...

I think for the stretch in the matrix I got
    [1 0]
    [0 3]

Can anyone remember what quadratic they got for the ones with the roots?
I did the same thing as you, for the sine to cosine one I had to work backwards... :/
I also got that as the matrix but I dont thing it's right tho... cos I think there's also a stretch in the x as well
what did you guys get for the conjugate? did u get something like y=2/3 and x=1/3?

I checked it with two of the co-ordinates (and then panicked and thought I should use that time answering the other questions!)
I definitely got thirds for the conjugate.

this was definitely a very hard paper, hopefully the boundaries will be better than jan 2013.

I had 1 hour to sit this exam, I didn't do any past papers. Totally underestimated FP1

I checked and rechecked that roots question and I got 9x^2
Got the thirds for the complex thingy majig
Did everyone get 9.859 or thereabouts for the first question?

The factor in front of roots was anything as long as it was divisible by both 8 and 12. Yes the sin question was like what the hell! I really think I m gona have to retake it as it was really hard. Why did they do such a paper? I was getting As throughout every single paper and this was a nightmare. I think the grade boundaries should be 50-53/75. This was nothing like others and nothing like what other boards like MEI and Edexcel do

    was alpha+beta=-3/2 and (alpha*beta)=-3?
because I did it soo many times cos I thought my answer was weird...

For the roots question I definitely got 24x^2 because I multiplied through by LCF of 8 and 12.... As they were the denominators?

I got that. Do you remember what you had for the final quadratic?

    72x^2 - 243x + 438 = 0

cos I did the sum of the roots and the product of the roots

    was the 2 roots: (alpha+Beta^2/alpha) and (beta=alpha^2/beta)?

Ah, yes, that would make sense - I think I got -81x too. And perhaps 146?

    The quadratic was 24x^2+81x-146=0
