The final book is my least favourite of the series. I haven't read it since it first came out. But you can't say that there isn't more detail about the characters in the books.
Given his friendship with his dad...lupin was poorly killed off. I already figured he would die since he godfather'd his son.

Read the first one - found it pretty derivative and mediocre, so never bothered with the rest.

Harry Potter is fantasy for people who don't like fantasy.
The first one is very childlike, far more a simple "children's book" than the rest of them. It certainly loses that impression later on in the series, though.

I know everyone is perfectly entitled to read what they like but I'm still shocked when I find out some people haven't read them.

I haven't read the Harry Potter books but I've seen most of the movies in theaters.

He got like, two words. It was basically "IMPORTANT PLOT points...Oh look, half your favourite characters died...BUT ON TO SNAPE!!!"

Read the first 3 when I was a kid but that's it, I remember going with my Mum to the local supermarket to buy the third book when I was 8 years old. I've only seen the first two films as well, don't have any interest in watching or reading the others.

I only read them last year despite previously thinking I'd hate them and I fell in love with them; that's just me, but I'd say they're definitely worth a try.
