Balls to knowing what you want to do pre uni, all my mates are 2012 or 2013 grads and most of them still don't have a clue what they want to do, I'm in a minority by having a clear career path! Just get there and see what takes your fancy, after all there is a vast, vast difference between how you study at A Level and ho you study on a PhD!
I'd like to do an architectural phd and then work for the Palladio academy in Italy. I don't know yet if I'm smart enough for that so I was thinking what else I would do and I can't think of anything apart from architect.

Actuarial work is a career field undertaken by Actuaries in the same way that Accountancy is a career field undertook by Accountants. Graduate Programme are simply programmes of work (usually with some big name company) where the company recruits graduate to work as part of their department. This helps you secure some experience and money under your belt and once the programme finishes (can range from 1-3years) you may go hunting for jobs at other firms or you can take up the offer (that is usually made by the company provided you haven't made a drastic mess of yourself in those years) and stay with the firm that you trained with by accepted their offer of promotion.

(rough outline to graduate programmes, dont quote me word for word on this)

Ok I won't quote you but (forgive my laziness) what is an actuary?

What sort of work experience? Out of interest.

Either at an NGO or a think tank, I'm hoping! One of my uni choices is Bath, because you get the option of doing a year's work placement. You also get that option at Lougborough and Aston, I think.

I'm also hoping for work experience that isn't politics-related, but I'm too sure what exactly this will be...

I'm really not sure about a lot of things, haha

Sorry, just seen what you want to do!
WOAH, you want to be an architect?? That's awesome!!!
Are you at university at the moment, or in college?

Sorry, I had to delete my last message because I'd made a huuuuge mess of it!!

Probably not! I guess it's not impossible but the idea's never really appealed to me. I'd like to work with people and in politics but not in that way. I'll have to wait and see, I suppose

Suddenly I get why you're called Arketec!
Are you doing undergraduate architecture now?? You really seem to know exactly what you want to do after uni!

    Ah, okay
When I was in high school I was obsessed with buildings and thought I could be an architect... but I'd never been particularly good at either maths or art so I had to give up the dream...
I wish you all the best!

I'm at the University of Leicester studying a BSc in Economics. I did initially apply for their Mathematics and Actuarial Science course which gives CT1-CT8 exemptions but later on decided that I didn't want to be restricted by early specialisation in my studies and so applied for a successful course transfer to Economics.

I'm in my first year and will most likely self-study and sit atleast half of the core technical exams before my three years are over. From there it'll be graduate program + 2 years part time Masters in Actuarial Management. So work + study basically What about you?
