The A's were in subjects completely unrelated to the sort of areas I am looking into studying. Is the Oxford aptitude test difficult?
Depends what your applying for; different tests for different subjects. Generally they are challenging, but not all subjects require aptitude tests. Some want you to hand in a piece of work you've done, e.g. art, history (which also has an aptitude test).

What will the top American universities require at A level?
Depends on the course if you want to go into sports than b-c will do
Though a grades are normally your best bet ( for ivy right ) for standard American uni a sports scholarship usually covers everything if you get the c grades

I think I'd rather stay in the UK to be honest, but thanks for your help anyway!
