Yup I agree with this, I know many schools which "compete" with those in the local area for those who can send the most there and school their applicants so much in interviews etc to try and get them in!! Basically they neglect ppl who dont wanna apply there, so I would pretend I was then just add someone else in on the form later!!

I went to a private school, but they were really **** andd hardly gave me any help. Quite a young school though, only 20 yrs old or so.

I certainly know of a couple that are totally obsessed by it! To the extent that those who don't get into Oxford or Cambridge feel as though they've failed, even if they have offers from other top universities. One near me makes everyone finish several drafts of their personal statements before the summer holiday at the end of year 12, which was certainly not the case in my school!
Thats quite sad really. The students should be able to decide for themselves where they want to apply and they shouldn't be pressurised by any aspect of the application process.

Yeah I know it is, but hey if ur gonna get extra help with your app it might be worth telling the school what you intend to do ... I dont think its fair at all really, but bear in mind that these schools are super selective so most of their students intend to apply to oxbridge anyway.

The other problem is that some people at these schools apply to Oxbridge without even considering why. I deliberately chose not to, as I was applying for Music back then, and I really didn't like the courses on offer. I remember talking to a friend who went to a private school about this and she seemed astonished I'd even considered that - she planned to apply to Oxford regardless of any other considerations.

Exactly, its drilled into them from an early age thats where they will go, and nowhere else is any good.
