Freakonomics makes clear the importance of information and incentives, so in that sense I'd say it's actually pretty good for Economics. I appreciate the guy's originality too.
That and Correlation <=> Causation, with his abortion/crime argument.

I've constructed a macroeconomic model to investigate it using an alternative method, problem is I can't exactly get good consistent data and I don't exactly have the time to do this.

If I was doing another dissertation, I might actually have investigated it.

how about 'the world is flat' by thomas l. friedman? it's about hrmm, globalisation and international economics i think.
