Good will? Why would you value a Liberal above three of your own party members?

The problem I have with cutting seats is that the best member is not always the one who would get the seat. It may instead lead to a situation where simply the one who is most articulate wins an MP election over the one who writes bills or votes 100% of the time.

Plus from a fundamental self-interest point of view, why should the Tories and Liberals with surplus members suffer just because others are struggling.
I don't want to cut seats (or were you just consolidating my point?).

I do not support any seat reductions. I think that this place could use a back to the basics direction and rather than cross-party bickering, we should focus on and encourage overall activity, diversity, and most importantly proper debating supported by data.

If a party is unable to cover all its seats with active members, it should be considered polite to allow others to have a go regardless of which party they belong to – especially newbies.

We shall keep the reasons to ourselves. The point is that we have got enough active members to cover at least 12 seats very easily and that our two members currently on loan to another party partially prove that.

Do the Opposition parties need hostages in case there's a breakdown in relations?

Do the Government parties need some of our members to finally make good use of their seats?

Manifesto written from myself, I will be standing endorsed of course by the Liberals - I'm looking forward to seeing who else is standing!

It kind of highlights the problem with by-elections - apathy.
        *drops by*

Isn't it fair to say more apathy comes when its just a by election for the one seat. I remember a three or four seat By-election a couple of years back which did seem to be one of the most keenly contested ones we've had (certainly from the one's I've been around for) In theory the less the number of seats should make it more of an interesting contest

We'll see when candidates line up though.

So when's this to kick off?
According to Falands update last evening he said it would be 23 hours in till the deadline for entries. So my guess would have been 5pm, but I suppose when he gets around to it.

I hope that none of the Govt. are running candidates considering they can't fill their own seats.

I can't speak for the other parties but the Greens are able to fill our seats just fine.

likewise, as I recall the only reason the socialists had one vacant seat earlier in the term was because the member holding it left without telling us.
