It's like the Blair Witch, but with Trolls.

The Borderlands has Trolls?

Sorry - ignore - I see you mean Trollhunter! doh!

Lol. But that was sort of the point of it :P

Eyes without a Face (1962)?
The Romero films?
Don't Look Now (1973)?

Seen them. Watched a Romero film - Dawn of the Dead not exceptional. Besides, I generally don't like zombie films lol.

Alleged strange goings on in a West Country Church, a team of Vatican investigators are sent to investigate. Which sounds crap, but I can only say that it deals with what sounds like a routine plot in a much more inventive way than you would think.

In tone (not plot) it is reminiscent of Kill List.

Nah, not for me sorry. I've watched enough of Vatican/catholic/ possession movies...let's just say the ones I've seen are all formulaic and weird (and not in a interesting way) lol. Thanks anyway.

Lol Dawn of the Dead is iconic... his films are exceptional! Some of the newer ones are terrible though.

What films have you not seen?

When I said it's like it, I mean it's a found-footage by students doing a documentary. There's no witches or anything. It's actually a satire as well as a serious film in its own right.

Anything described as similar to TBWP has to be a load of tosh in my book.

You seem to like saying 'no' to all our suggestions?

OK, as The Borderlands doesn't appeal despite it having virtually nothing in common with the standard catholic / possession genre, have you tried it's tonal sibling? i.e. Kill List?

Another thought would be The Devil's Backbone. Or maybe The Awakening, although that is more mainstream and probably one that you have seen.

“Mulholland Drive,” from director David Lynch, is exhilarating two hours and 25 minutes of macabre thrills, highly charged erotica and indelible images

Apologies. I don't mean to be picky but It's hard to find stuff that I haven't already seen or would find vaguely interesting in this genre.

I'll have a look at two that you have suggested. See if it would be up my street. Thanks

I think I've suggested four! Plus a supporting vote for Trollhunter

No problem, some other non-mainstream choices might be the original 'The Haunting' (1963 version) and also Jacob's Ladder, both interesting takes on their subject matter.

Hey  :mwuaha:

Can anyone suggest some decent horror movies that have good plots and are thought-provoking (for a horror movie).

Please don't suggest torture porn, slasher movies or really slow-paced movies.

Thrillers/chillers are ok.

Thanks.

Audition. It does start off quite slow-paced but without doubt one of the best horror films ever made. The Changeling is pretty good too (nothing to do with the Angelina Jolie film) - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080516/
Suspiria by Dario Argento?

I know it's quite old (1977) but I tend to prefer older horrors because they don't overly rely on graphics (because they can't) so they focus more on the music, lighting etc. Makes it more creepy despite the pink blood
