The main character in slum dog millionaire (Dev Patel) was a friend of a friend , who went to a school literally opposite my house. Also Raheem sterling once played in a Fifa tournament with my mates. Lived in the same neighbourhood , this is was before joining Liverpool.

Never national news that I'm aware of.
The kind of stories that hit my local area involves a man trying to rob a bank with a bread knife 30 minutes after giving the cashier his full name and address, and left empty-handed despite an OAP offering him £20 to leave.

My school is like Waterloo road lol. Every year a fight happens between our school and a school 12 miles away, they all came with knives, boarded trains ended up in our school. In the end Police were there with sniffer dogs at the station as people were too scared to leave lessons lol.

A couple of years ago I was on holiday for the weekend and I turned on the TV to find that there was an escaped murderer on the loose in my city. Pretty exciting stuff.

The police station he handed himself into is directly next door to college, we weren't allowed to leave the building for a few hours.

This happened years ago, but in a very uneventful summer one year two pigs escaped from the local abattoir and evaded capture for a while. For some reason it made the national news! Apparently even some American stations covered it. I think because we have a pub in the town called the Whole Hog

Yesterday there was a riot at a prison about 10 mins away from me. Made Sky News, although, nothing to brag about that's for sure.
I know what you mean. Then again, that could be said about quite of the things that you see on the news.
