It's great to hear that you're applying to CVA It's challenging and a lot of hard work (typically other courses have about 16 hours of lectures and seminars a week whereas we get 25-27 hours a week) but you're gonna love it! I certainly do
As I said previously, your portfolio should focus on your strengths - for instance, I had life drawings, photography and a 3D modelled and rigged Minecraft character in mine I also had a website so that they could see my work whenever they wanted/needed to (despite not being amazing at life drawing or 3D work, I think I got in because of my determination and passion so if you can make a website, that'll look great but it's not necessary - it'll just make you stand out).
I think you should absolutely have a go at modelling things in 3D - and if you make something you're really proud of or had an challenging experience trying to model something, I would bring that too - because it becomes a talking point for you and your interviewer
We use Maya here at the NCCA so I would suggest heading over to the Autodesk Education website and downloading a free copy
Make sure that your portfolio shows off the best version of you and the best of what you can do!
Quality over Quantity!
All the best,
