The BNP is a joke, Nick Griffin isn't what you'd call strong leadership material. They have also got a reputation for attracting nearly literate underclasses who make the party just look ironic. UKIP predictably have attracted people who realise the above and seek a more serious alternative, which Is natural

If you factor in both social and economic policies, the BNP are not right wing. They're only attacked as such for their viewpoints on education, law and order and immigration. They're a centre-right authoritarian party with far right and far left policies embedded throughout. They're an extremist party and a mix of extremism from both sides of the spectrum. To suggest they're a far right party overall is ludicrous and a myth peddled by idiots. Yes the BNP are morons but they're centre-right authoritarian extremist morons.

The reason is both down to the misinformation about what right wing politics actually represents and also the rise of UKIP who are in fact more right wing than the BNP yet less authoritarian and less extreme. People don't seem to understand the notion that overall placement on the political spectrum factors in both social and economic policies.

Loads of BNP voters are old Labour voters who turned their back on the party during Labour's immigration and multiculturalism push and thats why the party peaked when it did.

Oh, I'm sorry, was not knowing the correct placement in the political spectrum for a bunch of ****ers, the majority of whom appear racist, not right of me? Your post would have been acceptable, but for calling people idiots for not really spending the time or effort to look up some pointless trivia (about a pathetic excuse for a party) seems a bit extreme to me.

Yes. Spreading misinformation is wrong and its hardly pointless. It might be to you but thats because you've been called up on it.

Been called up on what? I've never studied Politics so why would I be expected to know that? You are basically calling people idiots because they haven't studied something which is ludicrous and that is wrong. You could call the journalists (fools) for spreading misinformation, but not people (for something technical as that).

My apologies for using the word 'idiot'. I didn't realise you were so sensitive. I hope tonight you can find it within your heart to forgive me before retreating back to the cotton wool of protection you clearly have placed in your bedroom.

Well done. Your wit knows no bounds. If only you could use your intelligence to actually do something productive. Like spend more time studying the mainstream politics than investigating where a minority BN Party should lie on the political spectrum. Oh well, enjoy reading your politics books this late hour. I'm sure it will satisfy your ego to serve the plebs with your pointless trivia.

IMHO it's not just UKIP, all parties and the police and local governments are all taking the concerns that were driving people toward the BNP more seriously than they were 5 years ago.

particularly abusive grooming of underage girls with apparent impunity

People in the areas where the BNP were doing well could see this going on in their areas for 20+ years but were told 'shut up and go away you racist' when they tried to get anything done by the proper authorities. The BNP did well at the polls when it was the only party that appeared willing to face up to the situation.

I agree with the point about the mainstream parties, but in regards to the police and the councils, in what way do you think they are doing more than they were 5 years ago?

You sound disappointed that the far right isn't doing very well.

It's easy to see what happened.

A lot of people in the UK weren't happy with foreigners coming over 'ere and taking our jobs. etc. But on the other hand what they hated even more were neo-Nazis and anti-semites. Since their parents had fought and died fighting the Nazis.

Basically the BNP was friends with the KKK and were a neo-Nazi organisation in all but name.

UKIP came a long and said. We don't like foreigners either! But we hate foreigners regardless of skin colour. White foreigners and black foreigners. We hate anyone who's not British basically.

So, people can vote for UKIP while still hating Nazis. And also you get to hate Germans too. So everyone's happy. \/ :france:

Ethnic minority grooming and rape gangs are getting investigated now and they didn't used to be. Social workers (in particular - also other professionals in contact with children) are now being told to listen with sympathy to vulnerable girls alleging grooming and rape by ethnic minority gangs.

We have always been uncomfortable with ethnic nationalism, and socialism. Those who just want to send 'em back are usually more concerned with public services than racism, they only ever made cordial alliances in their heads with national socialist parties/movements like the BNP and NF. These have always been more popular on the Continent, case in point Marine Le Pen. She says the EU is too neoliberal, not too socialist, and wants a strong welfare state for the native French.

UKIP are ultra-Thatcherites. They are people so economically right-wing they think Cameron is too wet. While in France, Holland etc the immigrant issue is talked about in terms of social policy and a clash of cultures, here UKIP are careful to frame it around the "we just can't afford it" line. To put it pithily, they're Anglo-Saxon in their economics rather than the ethnic sense.

That is probably just a ripple effect from Yewtree. While shocking, calling it a fringe issue would be generous. It has no bearing on any of the actual important, systemic issues around underfunding of public services which rightly or wrongly (clue: wrongly) are at the core of the immigration debate.
