Jeez, that's not what I said. I said that magazines are targeted towards different genders that way because men put pressure on women to "look good for them", and generally throw a childish tantrum if a woman says she wears make-up and nice clothes for herself and not for a man's approval.

Well, as a woman I'm quite happy about this. Hopefully men will stop objectifying us so much in future.
    I hope you're not serious.

I am, actually. As a man, I doubt that you understand how disgusted most women feel about Page 3.

Who cares? Who really cares about Page 3 in the year where we have instantaneous access to online porn?

The only people who read The Sun are old men, white van men and 'blokes' who frequent greasy cafes in chavvy areas anyway. It's pretty pathetic to have tits in a newspaper anyway. I buy a newspaper for news.

That's a pretty sexist attitude to have.

I would just like to point out I have never bought a copy of The Sun. I'm not gonna pay to have Murdoch brainwash me.

    Source?

I've found marketing departments to be quite female orientated.
So? Just because it is ran by mostly women doesn't mean sexist ideals against women cannot be pushed. At the end of the day the only thing marketing departments care about is increasing exposure and therefore sales. Doesn't matter if the result is sexist. If it is women that airbrush female models to unobtainable standards that still doesn't make it ok.

Definitely a step in the right direction, but it won't stop the Sun being a lying, hatemongering pile of filth.

The only people I actually know or knew who read the Sun were the 4 ladies from the underwear factory next to my school. They used to go in the same caff as us at lunchtime. We went in to smoke, they went in to drink coffee and discuss the news.

One of them read out loud the stories from The Sun and the four were suitably outraged at the state of the world. They clearly believed every word in the paper "because it's here in black and white".

That was when I came up with my idea of secret cameras in newsagents that pick out the people who buy redtops and, when they go to vote, everyone is matched against these photos and their vote quietly thrown away. :-)

Ugh, will you stop putting words in my mouth, please? You clearly don't know the first thing about gender inequality. I suggest that you educate yourself.

Before jumping on the defensive perhaps appreciate that I was asking for a source and offered my experience. That's not to say that females can't push male ideals but it does take some weight off the chances.

You've not provided any source yourself and so are mearly offering a 'may' scenario. So again; Please source us evidence that most female aimed magazines which heavily lean towards fashion and beauty etc are steered and influences by men.

Again: Not trying to debate that that's not the case.. but that no one has actually given and proof that it is either.

I don't buy magazines, actually, and it's because I don't like the gender-stereotyped content. Thanks for assuming that I personally am stupid when you know nothing about me.

If you don't like page 3 boobs, maybe you shouldn't buy a newspaper with page 3 boobs.

This isn't a matter of battling sexism, protecting children or getting rid of the "old fashioned".

    1) Being attracted to the opposite sex is not sexism.
    2) Boobs are not damaging to kids. Children can and will access far more explicit images on the internet; and they won't be damaged by them either.
    3) If something is "old fashioned", it will fall out of circulation naturally. Clearly there is a demand for page 3.

If this decision by the Sun is driven by falling sales then fine, but if the undue pressure applied by idiotic feminists informed such a move I hope it will be swiftly reversed.

This is BS, women put pressure on themselves to look good. All those high fashion magazines such as vogue are run by women, for women and they're the ones who dictate what an attractive woman is pretty much.

Also women shame each other just as much if not more. All those vile crones who work in modelling and icons like the late Joan rivers, they're the ones who ask for size zero models etc.
