Possibly, age came up in 2013 as a 24 marker but it was very relevant to the PRM;

Explain and briefly evaluate the view that age identities are created by socialisation

We were never told that the 8,16 & 24 mark questions may have a link to the PRM.

It's okay. Just to reinforce it, look at the past exams and you will see the pattern that shows that only topics in the PRM come up in the 8,16, & 24 markers. Goodluck for tommorow also!

So far the main topics I see are gender identity, class and a little bit of ethnicity. Hopefully class doesn't come up as a 24 marker as theres not much to say.

Yes there's a possibility age might come up because in the PRM children of specific ages were asked to participate in the research as they wanted to find out if the age of the children affected how they saw the role of the father. Just in case, revise age identities.

Yeah those are the correct topics but also revise the family as an agency of socialisation and social control, ethnic identities, age, multiculturalism and roles. Try to learn a study or two for each of the topics just in case. And I know, social class is a tough one. And there's a high chance it might come up also

Hey guys,

I'm wondering if people can offer me some advice, I'm targeted at least a C however past mock exams have proved I could get a B which is what I really need for social work university. My target grade is so low because I got mostly C's and B's in GCSE. Sociology was a new topic for me as well. Any advice on how to get those marks on the 24 marker and 16 marker I always end up getting 18/24 or 13/16 are these good marks to get to a B if not what am I missing. Lecturer tells me there's not enough impacts and criticisms any advice on how to actually do this? Also do you think the exam will involve age identities which my lecturer has hardly covered with us. Sorry so many questions needed to be answered!! :smile:

I doubt they'd ask how they are changing. But you'd start by definining gender, explain what it is in further detail, include a study that is relevant. This would be the intro.
First paragraph: one at in which gender identities are changing is that traditional gender expectations are no longer (elaborate)
Example: boys wearing fem clothing and using beauty products/// females taking on male roles etc
Relevant study
theory: postmodernists argue masculinity & femininity are now blurred
Give another example in the second paragraph, explain it and add the same things as you did in the first ( study, theory)
Conclusion: relevant key social trend

The PRM is all about the changing role of fathers so of course changing gender identities could come up. My prediction is- Explain and briefly evluate the view that male gender identity is changing

I have had a look at the past papers and most questions relate to the PRM, but not all. &thank you, good luck with your exam as well!

Think of all the agents of socialisation and link this to ethnicity and so on
1) Family: Song, traditions, origins, religion etc. All influence identity, ballad = migrants fear loosing culture so endorse it strongly on children,
jacobsen = islam is a strong source of identity
Alexander -symbolic markers,
religious clothing is a form of resistance and identity - hellen
Carrington = hyperblackness
Media enhances the important of an individuals identity, influenced by this, link to theorists klimikiewicz, gilroy, akinti, parker and song etc.
ETC.ETC.
Then against:
Gender is more important: oakley, statham, rose etc., connell, parsons
Education: subject choices are gender based, so your gender identity will influence your subjects and thus be important eg. theorists: Skelton and shelly
Class is more important, think values like: chris rojek, mcdonough, owen jones, saunders etc.etc.
