Brighton will be beneath the level of the Juncker radar, therefore it will escape scrutiny.

Think of the People's Republic of Brighton and Hove as one of those tiny mammals living alongside dinosaurs that somehow made it through the meteor impact and became, in the distant future, us.
Slowly and gradually ingraining itself to the EU? Will it slowly move into the conference rooms, turn up at meetings and hope it can get lost in the crowd?

It will try to pass itself off as part of Lichtenstein, or possibly Malta.

    :hat2:

Has it made a difference to the TSR staff, living in a Tory-free state?
Apart from the recycling problems we've been having, it's been alright
    (Original post by Yes, alright)
    aren't you forgetting Brighton Kemptown?
It's okay, residents of Kemptown are being offered asylum and being sent survival packages :yy:

Is that anything to do with the Kemptown racists? Oh sorry, I meant races.

I didn't know it was planning to? Is this a thing?
Well, no.. but there is that sentiment amongst people I know.

Trade unionism, expansion of the welfare state, increase in regulation and public sector employment, highest taxes in Michigan, etc.

So they only count as full-on lefties if they are socialists? If they actually were lefties according to your definition, it would be even worse.
Tell me how leftism led to Detroit's decline. In detail.

You have to argue for your own position too. Don't be lazy little leftie.

I want to hear your argument; you made the claim. I'm not going to argue against an argument that doesn't exist.

    Also, this may be illuminating:

    I already made an argument.

That political compass is totally bogus. How could a libertarian like Ron Paul be only slightly more right-wing economically than Obama when Ron Paul doesn't even want a central bank?

You didn't make an argument, you made a statement. An argument is the facts that back it up.

Maybe the scale isn't that slight.

If Brighton stays Green for too long it'll end up like Detroit. A once great place destroyed by the left.
    My new fave quote

"To chase the centre is to chase the ever-shifting territory of your opponent’s demarcation, and to recoil at the charge that you are “left” is like crumpling at the insult “mother******”; it has no concrete meaning, and its abstract meaning is simply that a person disagrees."

The left doesn't exist in America.
Don't tell him that our right is more to left of America's left. :teehee:

    Boy is this confusing.

    * The new People's Republic of Brighton
Peoples Republic of Brighton my foot (although whether my Foot is Michael, Paul, Dingle, Hugh or John, I'm not sure).

This is a town where 30% of the population work in banking and financial services. This is Zurich am See.

Ha, the only thing they really have in common with tax evasion central is gnomes, lots of those in Brighton. :giggle:

Interestingly, Brighton isn't twinned with any other towns, I wonder why not.

Brighton will stay in the EU even if the UK leaves.

It is an interesting issue though, if Scotland votes No and the 'UK' votes Yes, does the UK have the right to force Scotland to leave? Legalistically yes, but in practical political reality?

(I'm assuming the referendum question is 'should we leave the EU?')
Scotland is not an EU member, the UK is. The UK would be the member-state that achieved independence from the EU empire.

Scotland, if we presume that this decision causes their exit from political union with the rest of the UK, would then have to apply for EU membership, and of course all new EU member-states must sign up to the Euro. Freed of the tyranny of Westminster only to end up being governed from Brussels, a tiny star on someone else's flag. Some independence!

One can just about handle the Left and their puerile fantasies when their ranks have been reduced to a fringe cabal of Grauniadistas, cushioned from reality by their public sector paycheques.

Makes a change from the usual agenda of seizing control of the State and erecting guard towers and re-education camps on behalf of the people.
