Russia didn't land grab Crimea. They held a referendum and they wanted to be part of Russia. The only reason the whole thing happened was because of the coup in Ukraine and Russians in Ukraine weren't as happy with the political arrangements any more.
Come on if you had been in Crimea and the place is swarming with Russian soldiers and nobody trusting the poll counters are you really going to say no? (The referendum actually didn't give them a choice)

Anyone should thinks the EU is worse than Russia needs their head examined . So not surprisingly, mainly kippers then.

Any evidence that the referendum didn't give them a choice?

It's bizarre that you think you can question other people's sanity when you are advocating that we go to war with Russia on the European continent.

I generally think that we should have better reasons than you have so far provided before we start sending men out to fight and die.

The racist, illiberal, homophobic, undemocratic Russian government and its supporters can go rot in Siberia for all I care.
This is quite a silly argument to make. You have to take into account the historical context.

Russia has been ruled by totalitarian governments for a thousand years. By Russian standards this is the freest and most prosperous that the Russians have ever been by quite some distance. The government is also less corrupt and actually more democratic than it was in the 1990s. If you look at independent opinion polls we see that Putin has approval ratings that any Western leader could only dream of.

You can't make a like for like comparison with Britain or America who have had extensive freedom for centuries. It takes time to develop the institutions of a liberal capitalist society. Rome wasn't built in a day.

You ignored over 60% of my post to make another excuse for the Putin regime...

In several countries these types of 'peerages' are used to choose who defends the government from majority rule and I believe HoL defends our country in a similar way.
Err, there is no other country in the world that awards peerages that are tied to a seat in the legislature.
