You said all the things that there would be and you're right... There would be deaths, there would be charitable gestures but it wouldn't be enough to prevent deaths. There would be extreme poverty in some cases. People would resort to illegal or dangerous ways to make money to feed themselves.

The myth that charity will cover all provision for the poor is just a Libertarian pipe dream.

We have had a increase of 510% per year in Food Banks since 2010. When New Labour where in Government the increase year on year was only 60%. So the Tories have increased poverty by 8.5 times per year than New Labour. This is serious.

If you removed all welfare you would get riots and looting. You need to remember that we now live in a time where inequality is at Victorian levels.

If you are rich and want to abolish all welfare then you are sowing the seeds for your own destruction.
Not quite true as you very well know.

The Victorian poor had no welfare system to fall back on, and they managed well enough without rioting or looting. At least towards the end of the century, the situation of the urban poor was no worse than it is now. What's different today?

Yes they did. It was provided by the local parish.

The Victorian period saw the greatest increase in society we've witnessed. Improvements in housing, sanitation, legal protection and legislation and healthcare.

People however seem to try and compare Victorian attitude so of150 years ago with modern day standards. It's like comparing apples with oranges. From nothing to something versus minor tweaks.

And yet they too have a welfare system. Funny that.

Removing all benefits would, ironically, solve the deficit, enabling Cameron to live out the remainder of his days in a secure nuclear bunker without fear of reprisal from the resulting two-million strong lynch mob, who would eventually starve to death of their own accord.

I do love the hardcore libertarians present their dream of depriving the poor of food and water. Well you might just get your dream because we are heading for another recession soon. Your be able blame the whole economy falling apart on whoever you deem a scrounger. Give yourself some more perks in the process.

It is not as simple as that at all. Most people on unemployment benefits are actively looking for work, and most want to work, that doesn't mean they're guaranteed to get it quickly. I get a bit sick of people blaming unemployed people for something which for most of them is completely beyond their control.

Nothing wrong with "excuses" when they're true.

You mean one of the precisely 41,036,500 jobs spontaneously created by an uncannily efficient consortium of public and private-sector representatives in response to 2014's census of the working populace? Don't be an ass.

People would die. Crime would rise. The reduction in disposable income would negatively impact the economy. Inequality would rise.

    Basically, nothing good.

Contrary to what the media would like you to believe, we're not all lazy. And what would exactly happen to people like me who can't work? It would also meanI'd also lose my council flat. And no, moving back home isn't an option.
