    My step-daughter is at uni (or "college" as they call it) in Florida.

    From what I have seen of it and comparing it with my own experience as a graduate from a UK university I'd say it absolutely sucks. It's absolutely dysfunctional on about every level you can think of. The UK, for all its many faults, is still fantastic for university education so count yourselves lucky!
