Although it may seem quite a stupid question but can anyone tell me who VGL's customers are? thanks
VGLs customers are both: business customers and the local authorities AND The spot market. The case study does say that VGL has two revenue streams (these are the two). Check the first page of the case study.

Definitely left revision too late for this haha. the case study states that VGL's materials are commodities but then it says they sell on spot markets? can someone clear this up for me

It means that as a commodity the product ( the processed materials) are no different to any of the competition and their processed materials but they chose to sell on spot markets ( where the profit for the selling of goods comes from 24 to 48 hours)

I think it's a great case! So much obvious scope for potential questions.

I feel it's so likely there will be a 18/23 marker on the diversification into the textiles market - and perhaps the macroeconomics side being based upon exchange rates due to them trading on international spot markets.

Hope this helped, good luck in your exam!

Yeah me too, would they ask for a couple of microeconomic factors effecting VGL or just specifically exchange rates?

I believe they'll ask for a specific - say for example;"How would a rise in the value of the £ affect VGL's ability to diversify into the textiles market"Or unemployment is also a likely area 😊

Thanks! How would you go about answering it? Talk about how it may effect revenue and therefore the inability to afford to diversify?

I tend to stick to a specific plan when answering essays -

For this particular one I'd do 2 pros and 2 cons of an increase in the value of the £.

Advantages would be things such as VGL gaining a higher profit for their processed goods on the international spot markets as the value of £ is higher - in turn this will potentially bring higher funds to give VGL the ability to diversify

Disadvantages are greater in this instance; it can be said their goods will be less appealing if they are more expensive to countries (such as Scandinavia) due to the value of the £ increasing and so these countries may choose to trade elsewhere with other countries - as we learn from the case the recycling industry is a very competitive one and so it won't be hard to find a substitute. In turn, this may hold VGL from diversifying, likewise if trade is falling it may be harder for VGL to gain sources of finance from creditors I.e. Banks as their profit & loss accounts may reflect the business negatively

ALTHOUGH it's CRUCIAL to notify in your essay that it depends solely on how much the value of the £ alters by. As if it's a very small subliminal amount, it's highly unlikely these countries will stop trading altogether.

Hope this helps a little! X

cyclical- decrease in sales as less demand for bales

regional- lots of workers to choose from - decrease recruitment costs

frictional- people between jobs so income low affecting waste
