thanks everyone, yeah I did think it was a little rude

and tbh it's worse because she initially said she did like it and wore it, now she wants it changed

I dunno, I might just take the high road and return it and give her money instead, but I didn't give her money in the first place because it just seems lazy and not thoughtful at all

    It's nasty.

If you receive a gift, a lot of the fun is the fact the other person chose that for you; they're giving you something you would never have experienced.

Just typical female behavior so technically it's not rude as we can only call something rude if it's worse than a normal/average/common behavior.

Asking you to return it is just being honest
Telling you to buy another gift is really rude and disrespectful

I'm not sure it's a bit weird. I think it would depend on the situation. Why would she wear it if she didn't like it? Maybe she's allergic to the metal?

Give her a call and ask why and offer the receipt so she can do it herself?

It was recently a friend's birthday, and I bought her a bracelet. When I gave it to her, she said she liked it and everything. She even wore it for the whole night we celebrated her birthday. Then, now she messaged me asking if I could return her gift and buy her something else.

    Is this rude?

I don't want to jump the gun, because she is my friend, but if it was me, and someone had given me something I didn't like, I wouldn't let them know I don't like it, and I most definitely wouldn't ask her to exchange it for something else.
Wanting to return something that she did not like isn't rude, it's just called being honest.

Wanting you to go and buy something else for her is rude. It's incredibly self-centred.

What I actually meant was the OP should buy her the garbage disposal bags so she can have a convenient way of dragging her lifeless body to the nearest river without attracting attention. My post must have been cut short.

I've always considered it normal to be open to being asked for the receipt of the gift so the recipient can go and exchange it for something they like, especially for clothes or something expensive.
