I've met 2 people I first encountered on social media. It took about 2 years to meet up, so I didn't rush into things.

Meeting online people irl is absolutely fine in my opinion; it just takes some common sense. I think you'd instinctively know if the person you were talking to online was dodgy, and people are a lot more savvy about online grooming etc. these days. Ask them to post a photo of themselves, and check their other social media profiles to see if they're legit. It's also a good idea to Skype/talk on the phone before you meet with them irl - this is what I did.

How old were you 15 years ago??

I wouldn't have thought it was particularly appropriate for you to be meeting Sarah, 21 in the first place!

    Well spotted.

I have met countless people from social media in London, Bristol, Manchester, Croatia, The Netherlands and so on and have had people come over to meet/stay with me from as far as Germany, Denmark, Switzerland and Australia.
Never had any problems. Never felt unsafe.

Have done it many many times before, mostly through group meet-ups.

Also met a couple of people 1-to-1, as others have said; check out their Facebook, Skype or phone chat etc.

There's no need to put yourself at an unnecessary risk. Stay with friends you have met or seen already in person
