You can absolutely be best friends without an attraction. Heteronormativity is a big issue which has brainwashed a lot of people into believing otherwise, but feelings aren't required just because you're the opposite gender. Don't let people tell you otherwise - you know what you feel. And just because you think someone is attractive doesn't mean you're attracted to them like that

Gay men can be friends with women without attraction.

Blind men can be friends with women without any attraction.

Asexual men can be friends with women without attraction.

Men can be friends with ugly women without attraction.

Similarly, lesbians can be friends with men without attraction, blind women can be friends with men without attraction, asexual women can be friends with men without attraction and women can be friends with unattractive men without attraction.

Other than that, it's impossible for a man and a woman (who aren't related) to be friends with each other without attraction.

Oh no, he has been with many girls all of them broke his heart. Our friendship is purely respect and is filled with goodness.

It is perfectly possible and to suggest otherwise is pure ignorance. My best friend at work is a girl, there's nothing between us feelings wise, we just click. Don't get me wrong, she's not ugly by any means, she's just not my 'type'. We have similar personalities, sense of humour etc and tend to confide in each other with things which is why we get on so well. We often texts, talk at work etc. People often assume we're a couple too. We had a works doo a few week back and we both received comments from the pictures saying that "you'd make a nice couple" or something similar even though she has a boyfriend. I do feel that societal norms do restrain certain aspects of our friendship though, like hanging out together. It seems to me that in general, most people can understand the fact that two heterosexual people of the opposite genders can get on well without their being anything romantic between them.

If only society didn't induce the whole "girls and boys can't be friends thing", then we can have both genders getting along at a platonic level if the sexual/love relations didnt work out.

Surely if you followed the logic that males and females can't be friends, (I'd be seriously screwed - most of my friends are male) then surely gay people can't be friends with people of the same sex?

I dunno. 90% of the people on my courses for the last 5 years have been female... so I have sort of gotten used to the idea. If I thought about having sex with all of my female friends I think things would feel awkward.

Of course they can. I've been best friends with a guy for about 10 years and although I think he is a lovely guy, I've never found myself attracted to him. Some of my friends see us together and love the bond we have, others feel as though there must be feelings deep down and there really isn't!

85% of my friends are girls, at the beginning yeah I am attracted to a few of them but over time you forget about it and there is no sexual attraction. Honestly I have some friends who quite hot totty, always joking about their breasts and bums so get use to it and way more confident around women in general because of my friends. I've shared beds with some of them without the need to have sex with them because don't feel that way about each other plus if I get sex off other girls.
