The person in question identifies as female, but you choose to use 'he' when referring to them. You are fully entitled to do so Jimbob, likewise, though you might wish to be referred to by some other term, I think Jimbob is rather befitting and prefer to refer to you as Jimbob.

I really don't see anything wrong with a trans student standing for this position. I am also pretty shocked that feminists are involved in this 'backlash'.
Feminism is fundamentally opposed to the social expectations of women. In a feminist world (well, an egalitarian world), there would be no difference between the identities of a man, and identities of a women, in how others see them.
Male to female trans people change their gender because of the difference in social views of men and women; and they support that difference. I don't see how the trans movement and feminism can be anything other than enemies.
