- It may also be that, by artificially restricting the total number of applicants to each institution, the government is trying to disincentivise the medical schools from expanding (to take advantage of more funds from the government) and then coming into issues with the availability of work experience/traineeships further down the line.
Any university over-recruiting on medicine places will be teaching them without any funding from the government (plus additional fines). That includes clawback of funds from universities that recruit more than the allowed numbers of international students.
