    I'm 26 and am starting a PGCE this September. Alongside my BA and MA, I've been working in import/export since I was 18. I certainly feel I'm far better equipped to be a good teacher now than I ever would have been if I'd gone into it at 21/22.

    I not writing myself off yet, lets put it that way

    Well, at 50 I am not *quite* double the OPs age..........and I'm still surviving my schools direct course this year......so no, I dont think the OP is too old!

    The great thing about being older in the classroom is that the kids think you're a more experienced teacher than you actually are.....very useful!
