Surely the lives of young children, plenty of which have seen their parents perish in the conflict or on the way to Europe is more important that "getting a bad deal"?

All this statement does is reaffirm the same commitment the real life government have made.

But the lives of these children wouldn't be at stake. If you just moved a proportion of them to another MEDC, then their standard of living wouldn't be affected. I'm not suggesting these children should be sent back to their home countries.

I'd really rather not accept anyone but this is certainly an improvement over what's going on IRL and 17000 various people + 3000 unaccompanied children over 5 years isn't that much, I guess. If we manage to resolve the conflicts in their home countries before they're integrated into our society (if ever, right?) and along with other countries help them rebuild, I'll be definitely working to ensure that we send them back.

So we should push this problem, arguably created by us and the US in the first place, onto other nations? What happened to the United Kingdom leading the way? Being the example for other nations to follow?

We can't just sit around. We have a duty to help these vulnerable children

Very small steps from the Home Sec. We need to be taking more children.

I've surprised myself by agreeing with this.

Yes there is, by looking at them. If there's doubt from the way they look that they are 16 or under, treat them as adults, simple as that.
Lmao he prolly thinks 5 year old toddlers are raping women.

I would argue in some respects this is a somewhat moot statement given IIRC the RL changed their position to support the proposal, making it canon regardless

Now look at what we've got! We have a government that wants to make the UK an orphanage! The liberal contamination of the Conservative Party is obvious. You couldn't put a cigarette paper between the two parties anymore!

Aye. The needs of the many outweigh the possible disadvantages of the few.

Hmmm, abstain; idealistically I agree. But there is the argument of where will you put them?

This is 20,000 people. Not bloody millions.

I'd also point out last term I passed plans to build 500,000 new homes...

Oh no! The Conservatives have actually been sensible all this time!

A shame the same can't be said for UKIP.

I'll also point out that this statement was written by a Conservative Home Secretary.

When you say children, people assume that we are talking about six year olds etc. The vast majority of these "children" are apparently 16, convenient, as they are quite often taking their age as they destroyed their documents as they are illegally trying to get into the UK.

If they are ALL proven to be a) children b) not associated with a terrorist group and c) from Syria then I would welcome them in.

I fully agree. These children should be too young to take care of themselves or travel alone, but I'm afraid those background checks aren't really possible. How would you verify their country of origin?

Specifically your back yard I reckon.

    Or Liverpool.

    One or the other.
