Really just goes to show how poor the squad is. Leaving Defoe is a real poor move in my opinion.

We have friendlies for that, you don't drop a kid straight into an international tournement without any international experience.
which is why he's coming for the friendlies... I don't think there's anyone who thinks he is going to make the final 23.

Happy with that side overall. Drop Delph, Drinkwater and Rashford.

Would have liked to see Carroll in there, as he offers something different to the others but can't really see who you'd put him in for.

If Wilshere is fit, you take him, anyone saying otherwise has lost the ****ing plot tbf. Best CM England have and much more versatile

    No Gazza?

It's good to be able to identify the squad that'll crash and burn out of yet another international competition.

Drinkwater is much better than Wilshere. That midget **** can piss off as far as I'm concerned.

Woy delphinitely made the right picks. Woy knows best. If he says Rashford is ready, Rashford is ready. Trust in Woy.

He's not though - 1 start in 12 months, even if he's about recovered from his injury he's not up to match speed by any stretch of the imagination; not to mention it's a near certainty he'll be injured again before the tournament starts. Saying he's made of glass would be an insult to glass.

Roy has 15 days to take 3 players out. I would assume he is including Wilshere to see his match fitness in the friendlies and then make a decision. If he gets injured before the tournament starts we can replace him anyway with a reserve like we did Rio in 2010. And if he DID get injured during the tournament, we have about 9 other CM's in the team to take his place ffs.
It still makes complete sense to include him in the 26 man squad based on your arguments against taking him to France.
The choice is; an established international, who's 23 year old and has a lot to gain from going to the tournament and who, when fit, is Englands best CM, or a 30 year old uncapped player who is in good form. The choice isn't tough.

The issue is England fans put far too much weight on whether they like a player off the pitch (or even what they symbolise within the international set up) when saying who they'd want in the team.
Roy will get needless abuse either way, either for choosing an inexperienced team or for choosing old favourites, so he mightmight as well pick who he thinks will do best rather than your average England football fan who's memory seems to be limited to the last 6 months...

Except Zayn's album debuted at number 1, whereas Jack has played like once in the last 18 months, and you're suggesting he should go ahead of Drinkwater who was integral in a title-winning team and crucially actually stays fit.

Caroll adds more to England offensively and gives a different option to our other strikers. Drinkwater will be 5th choice CM. Think about the role in the squad not just the reputation of the player.

I can see your salt levels haven't dropped much since yesterday.

Carroll played well for what three or four games at a time when he was playing next to the top performing player in the country. Wilshere isn't the best CM in the country, he certainly isn't better than Dele Alli. Also using the age argument for Wilshere > Drinkwater doesn't work when there's less than two years between them.I highly doubt Roy would have picked Rashford if he played for Sunderland and Defoe played for Man Utd.

    (Original post by mojojojo101)
Defoe vs. Rashford is a simple case of current gain vs future planning, because lets be honest, Defoe isn't going to be making many more appearances for England, Rashford almost certainly will be. I'd argue that any current gain is negligible anyway because whichever of them was picked they are going to be the 5th choice striker in that squad, it's almost a certainty neither will play a significant role at the tournament, selected or not.

Defoe has shown himself to be very good off the bench, so as a substitute option, he would be better.

Disappointed gotta say. Really should be having Antonio in that squad, he defo offers something different, and bit gutted Albrighton didn't make the cut, imo much more quality in crossing than Townsend, and that's what we might need

Fair enough with the front 5. Glad to see Drinkwater in. And I think Wilshere should come, despite all the shouting

If you think danny drinkwater is a better footballer than Jack Wilshere, you most likely have some kind of intelligence hindering disability.
